Best psychological thriller and/or non-gory but scary as f$&k movie you've ever seen?

I want your fave October-y/ Halloween season flicks that aren't necessarily bloody and gruesome but get in your head and stay there. I'm thinking Us, Hereditary, Midsummer, etc. I've always thought it's really clever and brilliant writing when they don't hit you over the head with LOOK AT ALL THIS BLOOD AND STABBYNESS!! IM A HORROR MOVIE but instead it's the kind of scary that messes with you and you're thinking about days later... TV shows acceptable also (but probably not as popular a convo in this sub)

I only know the common ones such as Memento, Jacob’s Ladder, and Requiem For A Dream. Maybe Fear and Loathing. The Machinist.

The Wicker Man from 1973.

Dont recall much violence in it but lots of suspense and creepy folk horror.

My favorite psychological thriller remains Repulsion though I might be biased by a scene which is clearly a tribute to Cocteau’ La Belle et la Bête which is one my all time favorites.

Isla minima a spanish movie about two detectives and ofcourse true detectives season 1...the prisoners and the before mentioned jacobs ladder... Its hard to get a finger on this becouse some scenes can make my bones chill while not being the "scary" genre... I will think about it..

1408 is always a favorite. Not sure I would say scary as.....

None of these are slashers or overtly filled with gore. They have some moments, sure. But they are “get in your head and stay there”. No doubt. So I don’t know wtf you are talking about.

He is looking for good horror movies for halloween, not regular movie recommendatitions. If it was my post and i would look at one of those movies except for jacobs ladder i would be so dissapointed after, not because i think they are bad but because they are no way near what i was searching for.

NOPE. Not the film in general but...how to put it...

When the cowboy guy puts on his show. And the following ten minutes. Took me a full week to get that out of my head. I almost wanted to leave the theater, while simultaneously never wanting to move again. It seriously almost made me sick.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) is incredibly eerie but believe it or not, it’s practically bloodless. It’s all psychological.

I watched it alone at like midnight for the first time a couple years ago and it was quite an experience.

Dead Calm, Nicole Kidman's breakthrough role, with Sam Neil and Billy Zane. Tons of suspense, some violence, but definitely not a slasher movie.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. It just creeped me out, the idea of being completely at the mercy of someone insane, and the only one who can help you is murdered before your eyes.
