Who are some of your favorite movie characters?

Maybe a character stands out to you due to the actor's performance, their cause, or some reason you can't quite put your finger on.

The one that led to me creating this post was actually when I was watching Underworld: Rise of the Lycans the other day. If you've ever seen the franchise, in the first Underworld, Lucian, along with all of the Lycans, are painted as the bad guys, but you come to find out that Lucian was the first of a new breed of Lycan, enslaved by the vampires, and even took a vampire for his bride. He was actually trying to end the centuries-long war between werewolves and vampires so he's a pretty sympathetic character.

Another one off the top of my head is Doughboy from Boyz N Tha Hood. He's a stereotypical gangbanger and really a shit person at the end of the day, but I can help but feel sorry for the situation he found himself in (terrible neighborhood, lack of a father figure, mother who clearly favored his brother, etc.)

Lucian and Doughboy are some of my more obscure favorite characters. I have a few others who I'm sure many others love as well: James Bond (Pierce Brosnan is my fave!), Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday, Riddick, etc.)

Recently saw the latest Spiderman flick on an airplane. The one where there's an accident at the factory and it's OOPS ALL SPIDERMEN. Anyhoo, William Dafoe returns as the goblin dude and they do something right by trashing the comic villain mask and just letting the actor mug it up like a real creep. He turns from sympathetic confused soul to possessed psychopath on a dime and it's real fun to watch.

There's a ton I can think of, but the first person that jumped into my head is Doc Holiday played by Val Kilmer in Tombstone.

He absolutely stole every scene he was in and I quote them regularly.

I guess he is technically a book character adapted into a film character, but Bardem's version of Anton Chigur was perfect. Emotional-less evil.

Robert Englunds Freddy Kruger was always a delight to see.

Same with the titular villain of the 1994 film Funnyman.

Loved the djinn in the original Wishmaster.

I was more curious about the characters they play. Who would be your top characters played by Arnie and Sly?

Dutch would be the easy one for Arnie, IMO, and the Terminator in T2. I also love him in Total Recall. I can’t remember his name, I think it was Quaid?

I’m not particularly fond of any of Stallone’s roles but I can appreciate Rocky’s story.

The whole concept of turning America’s greatest city into a prison was just bizarre to me.. and I only made it about 10 minutes into Escape from LA before I lost interest.

Daniel Day Lewis as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood. Simply iconic. DDL is such a fantastic actor, but I can’t help but see him as Plainview and I can’t imagine any other actor playing that part.

Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in Devil Wears Prada. No one else could have done that nearly as well. “That’s all.”

I also think no one will ever do Blade as well as Wesley Snipes, but I am excited to see Mahershela Ali try it out.

I remember someone telling me that in my teens and I just said “she’s living through war…it’s human nature to be selfish when facing the need to survive”. If Scarlett had been Stephen or Simon or whatever her selfishness and survival/business acumen would be universally applauded.
