How though? What did he do wrong other than at the end when he snapped? Being in a room alone with her? Every accusation made by Carol were MAJOR stretches. Twisting words and actions in order to be "technically right" on paper, but not representative of what actually happened. He made no sexual advances at any point ever.
I believe she knew exactly what she was doing with the legal weasel words, and I believe Macy called it out perfectly in the very beginning when he said he thinks she's just "angry".
Carol, to me, seemed like she was angry at either Macy personally for not understanding his class, or education in general for always being too hard for her to understand. She was lashing out and wanted a sense of control over something she historically struggled with and had trouble "keeping up" with. Her actions and intentionally destroying Macy's life were just methods of feeling power in an arena she typically feels powerless in. It's kind of demonstrated by her ridiculous demands at the end about what books she personally wants the school to allow and not allow. She wanted to feel "in control" and wanted to get rid of anything she didn't like or understand.
I don't think she was acting in good faith, I believe the Professor was acting in good faith and was genuinely trying to help her up until she "turned" on him and started trying to destroy him.

It's interesting you point out how she plays with words...you don't think he is engaged in the exact same thing?

No? Other than when he was trying to tiptoe around hurting her feelings.
Playing with words to not hurt feelings is not in the same realm as playing with words to make a rape accusation.
Do you have any specific examples of Macy "playing with words" to hurt Carol the way she played with words to hurt Macy?

Of the top of my head? No, it's been too long. But I do remember clearly it wasn't just about tiptoeing around feelings, but around truth.
Mamet is brilliant at exploring that.

What I like about the controversy is that there's plenty to dislike Macy's character for, right from the start. It's just not what the audience is expecting. Second time around it's obvious if you watch it to the end the first time.

哇!这部电影真是太棒了!我看了《阿凡达:水之道》,故事情节扣人心弦,角色塑造细腻生动,画面清晰绚丽,真是一部非常优秀的电影!每个人都应该去看看!

The movie sides slightly more with the professor but the script was written as having no good people. As time progresses, it's easier and easier to see the professor being more in the wrong, though....we are more appreciative of the power dynamic.
Edit: there's been some amazing stage productions over the years. I would have loved to have seen Rush/Blanchett production.
