Never Ending Story. Falcor flying, the rock biter and the princess were magical and grabbed me.

Edit: Oh wait. Where are you? Spoiler: (I don’t know how to do that black bar spoiler thing)Would you be offended by statues with boobs? Or a character dying in a very heartbreaking way?

that one blew the movie lid off for me when I was around 6. It had it all, action scenes, depressing scenes, scary scenes, catharsis, adventure, etc. Shame the sequels never captured the magic, or the quality, of the original.

It is THE children movie that try to remember you to continue to fantasize and use your imagination. It is so well done. A masterpiece IMO.

US. I’m personally not very prudish or into censoring, just would want it to be age appropriate (themes a kid can relate to) and would preview a sad death ahead of time to give it context probably.

Most 80’s kids consider that movie traumatizing. I liked it though.

And if you can find it, the 9 lives of Garfield. It’s a little known gem from the 80s. It’s hilarious.

That guy does look like him though. But as a kid I was blown away that Pee Wee Herman was the ships voice. Kinda suspected it when it was talking normal in the beginning but giddy afterwards.

Personally my favorites movies growing up (excluding disney's / pixar's animation) :

  • Indiana Jones (The original trilogy)
  • The Lord of the Rings (but the orcs are maybe a bit scary)
  • Harry Potter
  • Pirates of the Carribean
  • National Treasure
  • Bedtime Stories
  • Night at the Museum

I don't know if you consider them Child Appropriate but I find them all to be fun and full of adventures when I was a child (<10 years old). I find treasure hunting movies, etc is always fun to watch

and I need to mention Kung-Fu Panda, the best animation movie imo

The Dark Crystal. Fell in love with the movie when it came out back in the day and it's still a favorite. The recent Netflix show was also great and I'm still pissed they passed on a second season. I would have been 10 when I first saw it - so it should be fine. Might depend on the kid, if they need bright colors and non-stop action - Dark Crystal is a bit slower but boy does it pay off.

The movie came out the year I was born but I remember it always being on even if I couldn't tell you a single thing about the plot, lol. I just recently watched it for the first time since I was a kid and loved it. Even dressed as Kira and did a Dark Crystal theme for my trunk or treat (I was a surprising hit, lol). I watched it because a friend's little boy just got into it so it's been fun having something in common with him. Good memories.

"Bryan's Song". The movie about Bryan Picallo and Gayle Sayers friendship circa 1971. It's a movie about hope and inspiration despite the looming death of one of the characters played by James Caan. Billy Dee Williams has a great performance.

American tale was always my favorite. The secret garden, a little princess, Harriet the spy, Paulie, Beethoven, Indian in the cupboard, free Willy.

I let my kids watch the never ending story and they did not share my love for it. That movie will always be a top for me. I’ve seen it a million times and love it. As a mom though there is a death scene and a scary black wolf that attacks.

Been having almost weekly movie nights with my niece and nephew these past few months. The movies that my niece really enjoyed was the Harry Potter series.

Also recently, we watched Matilda the Musical and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a fan of the stage musical and I am so glad I watched with them because it was just a fun experience overall.
