Just went out for a walk and it was okay. 24 degrees with little wind and sun is fine. I'm going out again, maybe for a run in a bit and it's up to 28 degrees. Thursday and Friday look fine; I just need a couple of hours in the middle of the day. I will give it a shot on Saturday as well but it may be a short walk. If it is, then I'll go to the YMCA and run on the indoor track. Enjoy the weather! Fewer people out walking dogs today.

Staying indoors, making some soup and cookies. Then living under a blanket watching TV. Might do it again on Sunday. Change that to will be doing it again on Sunday.

The Mount Washington forecast makes entertaining reading. As I'm posting this comment, it says: "Looking further out, temperatures on Friday will start around 20F below then fall through the day to around 30F below at sunset. Temperatures continue to fall overnight, bottoming out after midnight and into early Saturday. How cold they get is still not quite nailed down as some models are keeping the bullseye of cold more to the northeast over Quebec while others have this sagging further south. On the high end, lows will bottom out at around 35F below while the low end has us bottoming out at around 43F below. There is even the hint of a tropopause fold in our vicinity and if that is the case, lows could dip even further for a brief period with one model this morning hinting at 49F below."

Why does it show these but when I Google I see like -11 tops?? Looked at three different websites, all the same, with 15mph winds.
HazardousWeather OP t1_j6ti3iv wrote
Not sure why those websites are reporting those numbers. I saw that too. However, here is the very reliable National Weather Service (NOAA) report out of Grey Maine.

No, not really. Talk to anybody who has been here for more than a few years specifically understands and know this mere few days of cold is rather normal and something we haven’t seen which is not normal. I’m happy to see it…and because people have short memories they think a foot of snow and a few cold days is abnormal. I remember seeing car rads popping back in the day

Do you also pop up and say "who cares, they do one of those every year" when people bring up the Super Bowl? It doesn't have to be a once in a lifetime event to be noteworthy. It doesn't have to be shocking. Literally no one is claiming that it is except the people you're imagining you're talking to.

ThunderySleep t1_j6tn9jn wrote
The crazy numbers are wind chill / "real feel". The -11 is the low for the actual temperature.
Might seem stupid at first, but as far as how dangerous it is, and how miserable it'll be outside, there's a huge difference between a low temperature and a low temperature with high winds.

It’s actually incredibly self centered and oblivious of you to react like, “won’t hurt me. Nothin’ to see here.”
You’ll be fine. I’ll be fine. Most people will be fine, but if warnings like this can save one life, or prompt someone to call their mom who lives alone, for example, and make sure she’s got a plan to stay safe and warm, isn’t it worth it?
As opposed to your view which is the classic “fuck you! Not my problem so I don’t want to even KNOW it’s being discussed.” Grow up dude.
