That's an old picture. A-1 is demolished and flattened. The AirTrain project is next up on the list, after the other two banjo's (A-2 & A-3) are demolished - which is in progress right now. Once that work is done, the rest of the gates will open up (Phase 2). The AirTrain's maintenance shed is where you see "Bombardier Transportation (that is a spur off the main line) and the PA wasn't going to run the new line from there. So you would either take a bus or walk to the P1 station (where the rental cars are presently at - CONRAC will be fully open during Phase 2) The design for the new Terminal A has an extension that will connect with the new Terminal B (which will be a whole new building) in the future. This situation with the AirTrain will be a ongoing situation, as more busses will shuttle passengers between Terminals (Landside) and passengers (Airside). Bottom line: once the new AirTrain is done, it will be a easy - right in front station. But that will be a few years coming since I don't know how long the AirTrain project will take. The new Terminal B is in the pipeline as well. We'll have to bear with for a while.

A major challenge with the new AirTrain project (which is in progress) is that the Port Authority doesn't own much of the land where the new train will be. It's owned by various private entities who all have incentive to not play nice/reasonable in the purchase and land of the needed land.
