Will need a new car soon and was hoping to get cheaper EV like a Leaf or a Bolt. However it seems that all new EVs have a "market adjustment" of at least $5k tacked on. I'm in central NJ, should I just give up and buy a used gas car?

Tesla you can get for MSRP, just picked up an Audi for 18% off msrp. Great deals on MB EQS currently. It’s def possible

You don’t want a Tesla. Their build quality is garbage, late 2000s Chevrolets had nicer interiors, and purchasing one supports fascist Elon Musk’s pro-Russia and Pro-Trump stances

Try Pine Belt or Lester Glenn for a Bolt. Also look to Cape May and Atlantic County dealerships. EV adoption is not as high there.

There also might be a Bolt specific forum with prices paid where you can find an NJ dealer.

all EVs in NJ have a free 11.5k off, even with 5k tacked on you still come out ahead.

It’s 7,500? I just bought one.

And yes OP, most every dealership marks up the price by the rebate amount. It’s awful.

7.5k federally + 4k locally (if under 55k) + no sales tax

there's other benefits as well such as subsidized ev chargers/installation of ev chargers and all that.

It depends on range for NJ rebate. The total incentive amount for an eligible vehicle is $25 per mile of EPA-rated all-electric range, as determined by fueleconomy.gov up to $4,000 for vehicles with a MSRP under $45,000, or up to $2,000 for vehicles with a MSRP between $45,000 and $55,000. Vehicles with an electric range of over 200 miles are eligible for an incentive of up to $4,000, depending on vehicle MSRP.

You could buy direct for some makes, aside for that I would consider ordering one. We bought a few cars during the shortage and I ordered all of them and paid sticker

Was just recently in bridgewater and they are marking theirs up by at least 5k and it came out to more than a Tesla 3

Rear wheel drive tesla model 3 is 30k with nj state incentive and federal rebate. Hard to buy any car at that price.

Spend 1200 on wheels and winter tires and you’ll be fine. Honestly, you’re probably fine either way, you see how much snow there was this year

Also the car is pretty heavy and balanced. It’s not like it’s a 78 Camaro. More like a 87 F150 with a bed full of cinder blocks

I have one. RWD definitely does NOT suck.
