If you have an iphone, your iphone will warn you automatically if you are traveling with a tag not registered to you. If you have an android, there is an app to do the same thing.

Probably over thought it as it being a a marker for someone to go after my car specifically. I just found it weird someone would leave a half drunken beer directly in the middle of the hood
