Unfortunately, he DID get away with it, for 2 decades and change. It's one thing for this guy to do this (allegedly) at age 20, get caught right away, tried, convicted and sentenced to life, when "life" means the next 40 to 50 years, assuming they avoid shanked or whatever.
it's a whole other thing for all of this to go down when the guy is age 42, assuming he even gets convicted. He already got to live "a normal life" for 22 years. But I wonder if the victim being a soldier, and/or the murder taking place in Germany, raises or lowers the chances this guy could face the death penalty instead.

Life in jail after 40 isn't going to be fun either. When he's in his 60s, instead of retirement, he's in a cell.
