Cases blown, for sure, but I don't think any criminal competent enough to warrant an undercover assignment would think they could get away with murdering a POLICE OFFICER

I hope not. But their is always the danger that some criminals are just stupid, aggressive or desperate and you only need one of them in each organisation.
