So it turns out hockey culture is rotten as hell. At least Canadian hockey culture appears to be.

The NHL has been making a top down effort (in a bland corporate sort of way) but these guys are coming up in a system full of the worst sort of sports bro culture. Especially in Canada where they're equivalent to high level highschool/college football players in the US in terms of social privilege and protection.

It's been interesting to watch this subculture acknowledging its issues and trying to change, though. Not going great at this stage but it is going.

Yes it does seem similar to college football. It will take a top down long term effort to fix this problem.

The players should take off their gloves and fight for their registration fees back.

It isn't the players who are paying usually, but their parents.

Which is why so many are upset.

They are literally the ones footing the bill to cover up sexual assault.
