Because he panicked when he saw an attacker with a knife? Have you never heard fight, flight, or freeze? Paralyzed with fear is a genuine thing.

My buddy Eric and I got attacked by a knife wielding maniac back in ‘04 and I flipped the knife on the attacker. Probably my Romanian genes though.

But was that only after you “flipped the knife on the attacker?” Because it’s a lot easier to jump in to help someone else. I speak from minimum experience here.
