The pic of the raccoon just hanging on the window guard staring directly into the camera made me laugh. Like it's taunting her lol.

I hope the unit has an AC cause she can never open that bedroom window as long as they're there. They'll crawl right in.

Seriously though, if I had raccoons outside my bedroom window they would be spoon fed and all have names and maybe little hats.

I would name them all Raccacoonie.

She should trade apartments with one of those people who feed the raccoons in Central Park.

Lady is thinking about this all wrong. She should set up a webcam and get in on that raccoon influencer money. She’s already got a great name for her channel: gangster raccoons BX.

That’s for 311 and Wildlife Removal to handle.

311 won’t do anything for raccoons unless they’re visibly rabid. You have to call an exterminator if you want to get rid of the raccoons. Legally they’re not allowed to release them anywhere in the city or take them out of the city but lots do if people are squeamish about having them killed.

supermechace t1_j7fhhqx wrote

In NYC homeowner is responsible for pest control. Exterminators can trap raccoons, I think it's a few hundred per raccoon, usually it's the same group of raccoons causing problems. For deterrents landlord can take various actions such as securing garbage around property

I’m not sure human poverty levels really affect the raccoon lifestyle. Or maybe I’m wrong and the UES racoons are just chilling with champagne buckets and manicures in a clean back yard?

If you don't feed them or bother then they won't bother you... These raccoons in my backyard everyday. When they see people they run away. Landlords can't do shit about it. Animal control won't do anything unless they become a threat. It's illegal to kill them so just lesve them alone

I don't understand how this is "tormenting" her. It's 2º out. Crack the other windows or the top part. What is the emergency here? They're not going to open the window. Call animal control or 311.

I have the same issue with raccoons climbing up my fire gate and hanging out. Once I realized it was raccoons and not a person, I accepted it and let it go. They are probably looking in on her wondering why she keeps putting shit in front of their den. The city is noisy af, she’s making herself miserable by obsessing over this shit.

The only solution to end this is to exterminate them unfortunately. There's no way I'd be able to put up with raccoons outside my bedroom window for more than a week. By the first Saturday I'd be rolling baloney in antifreeze and calling someone to bag up the aftermath.

Everyone is saying they wouldn't have a problem with it but raccoons that close to your bedroom window every night is crazy. They make awful sounds and scratch and claw the walls. Its a serious quality of life issue and this lady is obviously beyond distressed.

tiregroove t1_j7cfakr wrote

Holy ass, someone is triggered easily. So anything that remotely annoys you is a 'serious quality of life issue' and deserves nothing less than extermination? Got it.
How do you even get through a day in NYC without your head exploding?

I'd take the raccoons hands-down over people like you any day.

Yea I'm not sure you've actually dealt with a raccoon problem before.

When I was in college, a pair of raccoons decided to make their nest on our house's roof and the local animal control eventually had to poison them. Before killing them, they came at night to verify their presence was a significant nuisance. Even from the roof, you could clearly hear their clawing and snarling in the bedrooms and common areas.

I'm very conscious of the planet's wildlife and our duty to preserve their habitats and populations, but these situations are just an expected byproduct of our coexistence.
