Not an outreach problem. As a parent with 2 small children. Your schools are garbage and your 3k programs are even worse. I gladly pay for private school and private 3k.

It’s the only thing good de Blasio did. I’m not sure where you live or you’re just angry, but my daughter was in 3k and is now in 4K, it has been absolutely great for her and the family.

I've lived in NYC all my life. I agree that offering 3k programs is an awesome step and definitely benefits people. But I have higher standards for my childrens education and wellbeing at school. And NYC education system is still garbage. Being free isnt an excuse to have low standards for education and safety.

Would you kindly describe the standards you are striving for? I don’t mean to belittle 3k or 4K but we’re talking about colors and letters and drawing and creating.
What are you desiring in these programs?

For a simple example my child is already reading, doing simple math, and problem solving. She is leagues ahead of public school students, of whom some are still barely counting to 20( a sample of my kids friends in the neighborhood). If you keep your standards low at just colors and letters then how do expect your child to compete in the world. Theres no reason children in 3k and 4k can't understand more complex concepts. Its all about early introduction and keeping your standard above colors and popsicle art. You need to put work in to get better results. And that goes for parents too. I have a day union day job and run a small business. Im exhausted everday and still make time to read to, teach concepts, and nurture my childrens minds. More effort needs to be put in especially when I see public school teachers dropping their own kids off at my kids school.

You’re most likely extremely fortunate as your child is far ahead of the curve.
That’s mostly likely a reflection of you having a gifted child and looking for a specific school to advance her gifts than the school curriculum for 3 and 4 year olds.
Probably need to correct your focus there.

Maybe I’m just cynical but just hand waving that his kid is gifted is a cop out to excuse the horrible public school performance.

Well, it’s just my experience, having a 4 year old that I worked very hard with to overcome some delayed learning and speech problems, at these early ages, it’s mostly luck of the draw when it comes to them being gifted. It’s a lot about identifying strengths and weaknesses and addressing it. That’s the work. So if your kid needs more work in the basics, that’s what you’re addressing, if your kid is gifted you need to find an environment that excels that gift.
Basic 3k and 4K is very simple stuff, but it’s important and really good, a lot of it is socialization. And that’s kind of easy.
So this person has a gifted kid, and that’s awesome and she’s doing a great job addressing that, but the truth is 3k and 4K isn’t the problem for her, she needs to find the right environment to hone and develop her child’s talents. That’s not a public school problem especially at that age.
Now when we get to middle and high school I agree with. But of course we can never ignore a parent’s involvement in their kid’s development.

Our 3k and 4k was amazing have you actually used the program or are you speaking on behalf of the current education system K+? Hell I'll didn't drop the name Ivy Prep Early Learning Academy - Bronx.
Objectively my kids are 2 years ahead of where I was... granted the television isn't raising my kids like my parents did before me.
The ciriculem at first seemed way too mature for a 3 year old. But, when you're kid is the smartest child in kindergarten / 1st grade in your new "private" (or whatever you decide) school you can thank old douchebag deblasio. Literally the only thing he did right!
Some schools could be trash but if you can get into the one listed above I guarantee your kids will form better opinions than you 🤣🤣
