Sorry you had to deal with that. It’s scary.
I’ve been threatened by homeless people twice in the past month. One of them was on the train while the train was stalled and I couldn’t get away. That’s more times I’ve been threatened like that in a month than the previous 10 years combined… things are changing for the worse.

This happened to me in the middle of the day with tons of people around. I managed to doge a little so it was kind of a glancing blow… but definitely made me feel less safe.

It's so scary when you're on the train. One of them got on a train i was on the other day and was raging about how he was going to punch someone. :(. He just kept pacing and saying that. It's was terrifying.

Sorry you had that happen to you but this fear-mongering of not walking anywhere helps no one.
Dymatizeee t1_isz5vr0 wrote
Times are different now. Pre-pandemic I felt relatively safe even at midnight and was comfortable taking the train home.
Now, forget it. I'll always recommend females to take an uber or walk with a couple friends at least

what would you really expect to happen if she did?
My_Name_ISNULL t1_isz6l54 wrote
Sucks, but you should be happy as this sounds pretty harmless. Bad things happening is and always has been a crap shoot, a matter of chance.
Look at all the countless times you've walked safely, how often you rolled that die and won. Instead of focusing on that you're focusing on the single time that die came up against you, choosing to live in that fear, and telling others to do the same.
To each their own, do whatever makes you happy and isn't hurting others, but I would never want to live in that illogical fear. It's only the illusion of safety anyway. Even barring actions from others, random chance can end your life at any moment no matter how much you avoid risk.
As the saying goes, the thing about life is none of us make it out alive

What the hell is wrong with you? She was ASSAULTED! "hit me very hard on the head."
My_Name_ISNULL t1_isz75ll wrote
As someone stabbed and shot? Walking away from an interaction like this without a trip to the hospital is a win.
Shera939 t1_isz7cfc wrote
Wow, women "should be happy" when they get attacked because they're not in the hospital. You're an a--hole.

Go show some females who know you your post. It's really impressive.

This is exactly why people want to carry guns in NYC. And I’m all for it.

I will, gf knows my reddit account, im not hiding anything.
The only one jumping in here and assuming i was being sexist was you. Never did I use the word women or any variety thereof, this is a general philosophical outlook on danger applicable to everyone.
Shera939 t1_isz90i4 wrote
The only person who mentioned you and sexism is you. I don't think your comments are sexist, just ignorant and obnoxious.

Yet I never said women, you assumed incorrectly it was a sexist statement.
Shera939 t1_isz9fuh wrote
Again, i never assumed you to be sexist. Just ignorant and obnoxious.
My_Name_ISNULL t1_isz9n5q wrote
So why did you assume, as i quoted above, I was only talking about women?
And ignorant and obnoxious? Fair, I feel much the same about you.

I don't understand why anyone would think "just take Ubers everywhere if you're a woman" is a realistic suggestion at all unless you're a billionaire or something. If you're worried about crime and transportation the obvious solution, as always, is to get a bike or scooter. My gf rides 15 miles a day, counting to and from work. Often this is after dark and through tons of neighborhoods. If there is some skeevy dude on the street and you're on the scooter you know what you do? Just zoom past him. He can't run 18mph, I promise you. r/MicromobilityNYC is literally the only answer that makes any financial sense
Shera939 t1_iszajce wrote
I'm am pretty sure you also think men should be happy when assaulted by random strangers in the street, and that a painful assault that doesn't end up a trip the hospital is "harmless" and "a win", there was never an assumption to the contrary.

scenarios that would happen before it'd be recorded in COMPSTAT, in order of likeliness
- Cops don't show up
- Cops show up but don't file a report and get angry at OP for wasting their time
- Cops show up but don't file a report and give a no-care attitude
- Cops show up, say they'll file a report but they don't
- Cops show up, say they'll file a report, they do, and no follow-up ever happens
