I didn't understand a word you said. I eat one edible or take 3 puffs of my vape and I'm high as shit (that I bought from NJ). So as long as there is THC in it I'll be happy once the long island or midtown ones open up

Some of them are pretty close depending on where you live. It takes me like ~45 minutes door-to-door by train for the one in Elizabeth. They've been good safe options if you want vapes or edibles. Plus they offer a ton of discounts (student 10%, veteran 20%, etc).

However, I'm totally looking forward to the NY ones opening. Fuck traveling if I don't need to.

Go into any smoke shop right now and get some? You’ve been able to do that for a while now.

I know everyone says you can walk into any smoke shop in the city and buy weed but I'm too lame to do that. And I don't go through enough weed to become a regular so I'm confident I'll just get ripped off

felixbourne t1_j2br11n wrote

Fair concern but I think at this point smoke shops and bodegas would rather get your repeat business than a fast buck ripping you off. That being said, most of their weed is ass

Definitely not it's clean. Just seems to be the way the had to dry to preserve as long as possible

RW3Bro t1_j2bfdok wrote

Weird, never encountered weed that hardened up when dry. Normally just gets dusty and crumbly in my experience.

Also don’t love to hear that the ash isn’t white. I’ve always heard that’s a sign it hasn’t been flushed properly.

Probably had it vacuum sealed for a long time that made the buds super dense

2

RW3Bro t1_j2c1xm9 wrote

I guess maybe if they’re bricking it in the vac seal, but why would they do that? It’s not like they’re hard up for space upstate and they don’t need to smuggle it anywhere obviously.

Anyone have any background on Florist Farms? Are they legacy guys or new people?

−1

BreadHead911 t1_j2c581y wrote

Vacuum sealing will preserve the bud longer. Has nothing to do with space or smuggling

1

RW3Bro t1_j2c9gyk wrote

Yeah obviously, but there’s no need to brick it in the vac seal unless you’re hurting for space, smuggling it, or don’t really know what you’re doing.

honestly, if the prices can’t compete with what the delis and dealers, i can’t imagine this working out. at least not for a while. i would go just to try the options, but if i can get something similar or better from my guy on the block, idk if i would care to make that transition. the main positive factor about dispensaries rn is that what they sell has more regulations and has way more quality checks. my guy is not going to care if what he sells me is moldy or unsafe, as long as i hit him up next week.

14

TanBoot t1_j2b6qf2 wrote

Their prices don’t seem out of line with the dealers who deliver high quality, if you’re ok with smoking whatever terrible weed your bodega guy has then yeah, you prolly won’t find the dispo worth it

14

creepy_sweetie t1_j2b738u wrote

hey now! only some of the weed is terrible lol

1

TanBoot t1_j2b7j1b wrote

People need to consider the fact your local bodega guy is absolutely slanging bud grown with nutrients that are terrible for your body. I don’t think they’re malicious but that’s the biz

11

creepy_sweetie t1_j2b8r6l wrote

half the bodegas in the neighborhood buy from the same guy. he leveled up from selling outside the building to selling to the stores. they don’t know what they’re even buying half the time, just that it sells. and it seems that most people buy it out of convenience and because it’s cheap. deli tried to sell me shrooms once. i can admit to have been tight enough to have to buy bud from them… but shrooms… nah my guy. i ain’t touching that.

−2

TanBoot t1_j2b90d7 wrote

With all due respect you don’t know you’re talking about

5

DrewFlan t1_j2b7h3l wrote

And you do?

The weed at smoke shops is lightyears better than what anyone was smoking 20 years ago. The whole argument that only licensed shops sell good weed is a farce. Somehow they're magically able to grow weed better then anyone else? The weed this legal dispensary is selling from - where'd they get it from? Was none of that same supply being sold anywhere in NY before yesterday? C'mon.

Yes, there is some bullshit weed out there. That's not the average-priced, normal weed at a deli though. That stuff is perfectly fine and adequate for most everyone. The bullshit weed is the stuff that's so cheap it's too. good to be true. That market will still exist whether weed is legal or not and it is very far from the majority of what's out there. Saying only legal dispensaries are safe is fear mongering based on nothing but conjecture.

And legal dispensaries in New York can't get any products from other legal states it all has to be from farmers & cannabis brand companies from strictly within the state which is even more whack they can't get fire brands everyone knows and loves

2

MisterMaccabee t1_j2bzgci wrote

Well, the risk you take is getting your joint or whatever you buy from guy in bodega or in park laced with K2 or who knows what. A big selling point to the gov't officials who voted to make it legal was that it would take that out of the equation - people getting sick, going to hospitals, or dying from laced weed. Which, as someone who works in a hosp, DOES happen. And it isn't pretty. But people have been getting weed on the streets forever so it won't fully stop. It will also still be cheaper so there's that. But making it safer was a big piece of this and I do like that aspect of it. Question for everyone is - how much is knowing what you're putting into your body actually worth?

4

gonzo5622 t1_j2bxpzj wrote

The price seems pretty legit. If these places can get weed that’s California or Las Vegas dispensary quality, it is so worth it.

At 10.5g for $170 that’s the equivalent of $450 an ounce.

Given what you’ve described about its quality (non-white ash, poorly cured, lacking flavor, grown outdoors), that seems like a very, very bad deal. You can get a pound of similar quality from the West Coast for like $300. I just don’t see who’s gonna shop here unless they’ve been unable to find a decent weed dealer in this city.
