My old dentist's office was on one of the "crown" floors at the top and had a sick view.

Great drawing.

That's lovely, and brings me back to when I was in high school in the '80s and a bunch of us who all changed trains at Grand Central every day discovered that the Sky Club on top of the Pan Am building was still closed after the 1977 helicopter crash – but the doors from the 58th floor stairwell were open, and so was the door from the heliport to the roof! We'd meet up there after school, drink, make out, explore, pee off the side, &c. Here's a random YouTube from up there showing the view.

Fucking amazing. I hate having no talent. If I could choose one, it would be to have the ability to freehand like this.

Thank you so much! I think there is a part that is talent, but it also takes a lot of training and dedication as well. I believe you can draw too, with constant practice :)

Very nice. How did you make the vertical lines so straight while freehand?

Vegetable-Double t1_j5p0pik wrote

Some of the lines look squiggly, but I would say the ones ones on the Chrysler building are probably straight edge (and there’s no problem using a striaght for crisp lines).

thank you ! I have been practicing for a long time and my hand is quite steady for tracing. As this drawing is not big (A4 size) it is not complicated for me to do without using rulers. But I don't see any problem in using it and I would say it if I had used.

If I were to order this Chrysler building print, what size would you recommend? What size was it originally drawn?

1

Lau-art OP t1_j5zlpfw wrote

the original drawing is 8,5x12 inches size . But I scanned at a very high resolution, and the quality will definitely remain good until 34x48 in size. For a print larger than that, I don't know if the Artpal website makes any adjustments to the image (they are the ones that give all the size options)

How much was the commission if you don’t mind me asking?

I have no problem talking about the price. :) this commission was $140, and I made it in A4 size

How do you get such straight lines without tools of any kind?

Wasn't questioning whether you had done it without tools. Genuinely was curious about the method, but it sounds as if the small size made it easier, which makes sense.

I'm sorry ! English is not my native language, so I think I had not understood your sentence correctly. And here on reddit a lot of people think I'm lying when I say freehand drawing, and then it seems like they want to fight. Actually, drawing like this in the smaller size is simpler. when I draw a building in a large size, I make some main lines in pencil using a ruler, and then I draw with the pen over the pencil and without a ruler

Nice drawing. This view won't exist once the tower planned across the street from it is completed and blocks the Chrysler.
