I found your car this morning on my run at 5:30a and called the police. I’m so so sorry! But so glad you weren’t hurt.

Thank you so much for calling the police! They were able to inform me around 630am while I was trying to take my dog out before work.

Thanks man! Already got a rental and insurance is going to take care of everything. It’s just annoying, I just got it 2 months ago and now I have to go through the new car process again.

At least the insurance doesn't sound like they're yanking your chain.

Wishing you better luck on the next car.

mundotaku t1_j7hibwf wrote

Hopefully, insurance will cover it and you can buy something better (aka not a Hyundai/KIA)

Insurance is going to cover everything which is awesome. It’s just annoying I had just gotten the car 2 months ago and now I have to go through the whole new car process again.

If I were you, I would be happy. Your insurance rate probably was a lot higher than it needed to be for a comparable car. I advise you to look into buying a Mazda or a Toyota, even if it is a little bit older.

goalieamd t1_j7hkqf9 wrote

I haven't even started looking yet but thank you for the advice!

I was about to ask what new cars you were considering. +1 on the Mazda suggestion.

I got hit with Hyundai insurance penalty this year it seems probably just gonna sell it now since once already two guys tried to carjack me around last Christmas. Fuck driving in this city.

Not trying to be a dick, just curious: Were you aware of all the news circulating about how easy it is to steal Hyundais and Kias these days? I'm genuinely curious if buyers don't know; don't care; are told their model isn't affected; etc...

goalieamd t1_j7hyt4b wrote

I didn’t know until after we purchased the car about the TikTok challenge and what not. We also weren’t told that the cars were targeted. It’s my fault for not doing more research. We were kinda in a bad spot at the time and needed a car ASAP and that car was available and in our budget.

ColdJay64 t1_j7hi65w wrote

820 stolen cars this year are Hyundai and Kia, compared to only 618 of all other automakers. The manufacturer should be held responsible, that's crazy.

94

Darius_Banner t1_j7kq29j wrote

Yes, however, the litter bastards doing the stealing need to be held responsible too. Time for some bait cars

14

ColdJay64 t1_j7kxrnx wrote

I completely agree. It's just crazy that the city could have over 50% less auto thefts without this defect.

XSC t1_j7kc4ss wrote

Got rid of my Hyundai even though it wasn’t part of the whole tiktok bs. I’m not going to risk it being broken into by some moron.

th_22 t1_j7he4vz wrote

No big surprise, it's a Hyundai. Only a matter of time before insurers refuse to cover these models in Philly.

Can we have bollards on the SRT along Kelly Drive now?

59

Fattom23 t1_j7h8kvr wrote

The answer is no. We cannot do things that might inconvenience drivers.

67

hdhcnsnd OP t1_j7hc0q3 wrote

True, if we put up bollards cars wouldn’t be able to access the sidewalk-road or the grass-road or, god forbid, the bike-lane-road.

32

solipsisticsundays t1_j7i7rw4 wrote

Where the grass meets asphalt tbh. Too many people drive their cars all over there in the Spring and Summer.

21

ConfiaEnElProceso t1_j7hcl90 wrote

That is one of the safer sections of trail as there is a wide grassy buffer between the SRT and the drag-strip that is Kelly drive. Other sections are right next to the road and completely exposed.

12

Darius_Banner t1_j7kq843 wrote

Yes! I can’t believe how many idiots drive their cars into the grass to have a picnic (a very trashy picnic I should add)

I got rid of my Prius a little over a year ago bc I was worried about getting my catalytic converter stolen. I traded it in for a Kia Soul 😭😭. Sadly I love the car but I’m debating if I should try to get a different one.
