There’s a mini Homer Simpson bird in the middle of this hawk’s face. Neat.

Changed it up A bit. I liked it “as shot” cause it felt cinematic. I actually like this quite a bit more if I’m being honest. Good call.

I’m not a photographer but I do have eyes. This version is so much better than the one you posted. The one you posted has such a blue filter on it that it loses all contrast and detail

No worries about the photographer thing! So there’s no filter per se here I actually left this one “as shot” in my editing app for white balance.

I liked it because (to me anyway) it felt kinda cinematic and conveyed that it was blue hour when I took the pic. Having said that I also really prefer this edit for Many of the reasons you stated.

Excuse my ignorance - what is blue hour? I guess you are playing on themes here that went right over my head lol. Either way, the reason I ask is because this is such a lovely shot (both versions) and I feel connected to it for some reason I can’t explain!

'blue hour' is the period of time just after the sunset, around dusk when the sky takes on inky, indigo hues and before it becomes totally black.

Was something off with the white Balance?

How?? They move so quickly. You must have a very long lens!

FGoose OP t1_jeefsj9 wrote

So believe it or not that’s not always the case. A lot of the hawks in the city are so acclimated to people that they kind of don’t care about us as long as we aren’t directly on top of them.

I do have a long lens but I didn’t need it for this shot. This guy was unbothered by my presence.

I really love the direction you've taken, from inner city barbed wire to these beautiful animal shots. It has been fun following your journey.
