When the Birds won the SuperBowl, the crowd ransacked market and broad. Tipped tree planters, collapsed awnings, damaged vehicles. We’re not completely free of rowdiness lol

In 08 everything burned on Broad st. It was a lot colder though.

Well that was the problem, everyone wanted to celebrate but they also wanted to be warm.

I remember the day in between game 5 parts 1 and 2 having snow. Those few days were absolutely miserably cold, that's when they debuted those official ball caps with the ear flaps on them because the players were freezing.

It's true 08 and 09 had a heavier air of violence than 17 and last night, probably due to changing city demographics tbh.

Did it? I definitely remember seeing cars flipped and traffic lights/lamp posts torn down during the Eagles riot.

It would’ve been so cold and rainy if they won on the original light though.

They really did have to delay that game. I got no qualms what with the outcome but yeah, the night before was fucked.

2008 was far and away the rowdiest. I remember seeing multiple fights, cars tipped, and stuff getting burned. Some idiot was also firing off Roman candles at Broad and Shunk. One of them hit a father's back who was holding his daughter. The cops were also really aggressive that night. One tried gripping me up because he thought I threw a bottle at him. Thankfully, two other cops came over and told him that it wasn't me.

I think the difference could be because just 3 weeks ago, during regular season, The Phillies weren’t even on the map. In 2008, regular season tickets were hard to come by and everyone in the city had time to jump on the bandwagon. Prior to winning the Penant, a lot of Philly had no clue that the Phils were making a run - passion is mostly reserved for life-long fans, who are generally laid back. Add a year of passion to the city, along with folks who are simply excited by the excitement and you’re looking at a different crowd. I could be off, but that’s my intuition. GO PHILS!!!

The police also probably learned a lot of lessons in 2008 that they applied to the Super Bowl riot.

I was working overnight. Listened to the police scanner that night instead of music. It was insane.
