Sending positive vibes. Just moved here a year ago. I live in West Poplar (neighborhood just to the west of NoLibs) Great area. I love Philadelphia and have made so many friends in such a short time.
New resident from Texas. Anyone also new who needs a friend?
Realtor here - I've helped five people from the Lone Star state find homes this year! From different places, too - San Antonio, Houston, Austin, etc.
If you can DM me where in Texas you're from, and what neighborhood you moved to in Philly, I'd be happy to make an introduction based on the best fit.
Plus, I'll be your friend, too. Boom.
Edit: SUCCESS! DM received, introductions made. :)
Thanks for connecting me to a potential new friend! Appreciate it!!
I’ll be moving here from Dallas in January. :)
Two people from Texas!? What brought you over? Also welcome!

Mummers Parade question - anyone know what order they typically go in? Really only interested in catching the string bands and peeking the mayhem on two street afterward, just wondering if there's a rough timeframe they'll be hitting Washington
They kick off at 9am…Fancies, wenches, comics, stringbands. Expect them at city hall around 12-12:30 till 5pm. Here’s the order for this year
1 Pennsport
2 Jersey
3 Greater Kensington
4 Durning
5 Aqua
6 Uptown
7 Hegeman
8 Duffy
9 Polish American
10 Ferko
11 Quaker City
12 South Philadelphia
13 Avalon
14 Woodland
15 Fralinger
If you're into the string bands you might want to catch the competition at the Convention Center that happens at 5 or 6 on New Year's Day. That way you can see them all in the same venue. Plus all the string bands get a few more hours of partying, so if you're looking for mayhem...
What is philly nightlife like and is it a fun place for someone in early 20s?
Dive bars and dance clubs mostly, with a side of center city sips and rooftop bars/parks on tap.
what are you into?

You looking for dance clubs?

I'm trying to figure out if ~$3000/month after taxes is enough to live on in Philadelphia. I'm from the Rockies, so I've always heard that it's expensive to live on the east coast and I'm not sure if it's worth it to move on that kind of budget.
My wife and I just want to move to a city from a small town and we don't really know what's a reasonable amount to live on our there. Where would you live on a $3000 budget with a job near FDR Park?
It is enough to live on. I might look in the area south of Passyunk Square near and to the east of Broad Street (Lower Moyamensing). As you get closer to Passyunk Square stuff will get nicer/hipper but also less affordable.
You can afford Philly for sure. If you want to live in the nicest parts where people want to constantly in a nice or modern house then no. But here in Philly you can live in a nice neighborhood in an old but gorgeous house anywhere!
Alternatively, you can live in south Philly where it’s safe and close to things. But wayyyyy to residential for me.
Moved here from MD and I have a MD EZPass transponder/account. Would it be worth it to get the PA version?
I don't think that will be necessary. I had a Delaware transponder that I used for Virginia, Maryland and NYC quite often.
Yep! E-ZPass is the same in states that use it. States outside the E-ZPass network have a different program name.
If you take specific toll bridges to Jersey very frequently (18+ trips per month) then get a NJ pass, otherwise all out-of-state EZpasses get the same discounts.
Thanks for this confirmation!! The websites for each state's EZPasses are unclear regarding toll discounts so I wasn't sure if PA had exclusive toll prices.
Nope! Don't forget to give them your new license plate number though, it has to be on file for you to fight the fines if it ever doesn't scan.
PA EZPass is not that advantageous. NJ's is better as you can get a discount for being a Walt Whitman or other bridge commuter.
They're all pretty much the same otherwise.
I made this same move 5 years ago and actually switched to a Massachusetts EZ pass because it had no fees whatsoever (at the time). I no longer have a car so not sure if that’s still the case but worth looking into which states charge what and when.

Hey all! I have a lovely and open apartment located in West Philly for $1,600 a month. It’s a 2 bed 2 bath with a rooftop deck and in-unit washer and dryer. Message me for pics and details! :)
Is West Girard Avenue around 6 and 7th street a safe area ?
It's pretty safe, but it gets dicey the further northwest you move from there. It's close to a hospital with a methadone clinic, which can attract a certain type
That’s close to the boundary between fishtown and northern liberties. I would say it’s one of the safer parts of Philadelphia in terms of gun violence and so forth. Very busy avenue with lots of foot and vehicular traffic.
Not very aesthetically pleasing though….

This really DOES NOT feel like the right thread for a question so specific but I’m not allowed to actually make a post so: does anyone meet up for Pokémon Go raid hours on Wednesdays? The city I used to live in had a group that would meet at the same bar each week (the bar tenders both played) to raid so I’m wondering if there’s anything close in philly. I can’t afford all these remote raid passes!
