I used to go to this awesome Finnish sauna in the woods where you could sit in the sauna and then jump in a freezing lake to cool down. Do we have anything like that? Or even a spa version with a sauna and a cold water pool that you can pop back and forth between?

It has to be public transit accessible šŸ˜¬

(If you havenā€™t done this definitely find a way! Itā€™s so refreshing)

Itā€™s a hike and a half, but itā€™s a great spa. Especially since they expanded and added the ice room.

Chung Dam Spa in Cheltenham has this! http://chungdamspa.com/. Itā€™s a Korean spa with several different pools and different saunas at different temps. Also, I highly recommend getting the body scrub - your skin will never be softer.

And omg the massages are incredible. These tiny women will wring out every muscle in your body. Super clean. Donā€™t know about getting there by public transport?

Island Spa and Sauna in Edison, NJ has all this! Accessible by NJT. A little far but spend all day there and it's worth your while!

Was thinking about going here this week. Have you bren to King Spa in nj closer to nyc? Is it similar to that? I love that place.

2

feather_moon t1_iywx70c wrote

Yes! But I actually like it better. I find it to be a more relaxing atmosphere (King Spa was packed when I went) and it's cheaper. It doesn't have the variety of sauna types as King Spa does, but I like that it's chiller and quainter.

notbizmarkie t1_iywd5vd wrote

Iā€™ve been to both. Same type of Korean spa, but King Spa is just larger. Island is great as well, just slightly smaller.

Look up Restore. They have something similar and various locations. Just double check cause it's also the name of a dispensary.

It's also where I bought my couch. Who knew Habitat for Humanity also ran spas. /s

After living in Korea, the Healthplex at Springfield (Delco) hospital has the closest thing to a Jimjilbong (Spa) I could find. They have dry and steam saunas, hot tub right next to a cold plunge, and plenty of shower space. Haven't found anything comparable.

Best part, everything is right next to each other. Super easy to go from sauna, shower, hot tub, cold tub, repeat.

They changed the name since I've been there! https://www.crozerhealth.org/locations/practices/p/primary-care-at-the-healthplex-pavilion/

Itā€™s so sad! Iā€™m about to get evangelical about it. People need to know how good it feels. America needs to import it in a bigger way, itā€™s an amazing tool for destressing

Anyway, thanks for this!

There is a fitness center attached to the hospital. You can get a gym membership without being associated with the hospital.

I am also very interested in thisā€¦

Iā€™m considering joining a city fitness location that has a sauna, though they have no pool, so I guess a cold shower would be the next best thing

I've been looking for something local ever since going to Bota Bota in Montreal. If you're ever looking for a long weekend away, I highly recommended that place for their water spa circuit.

I literally just started working on a passport app with Montreal in mind. Iā€™m saving that spot in google maps, thanks

It's perfect. Walking distance to everything in old montreal, go in start with a massage, then do the three hour water circuit.

I did what I thought was an exhaustive search for this same thing after moving back from New Mexico which has a number of great soak locations. The best lead I had was the Hershey Spa. Never got the gift for my wife bc most of the other amenities, including the restaurant, were closed due to covid.

The first spa listed is on the other side of Cheltenham Ave, literally right across the street from Philly. Now its not close to center city at all but OP stated they didnt mind septa. And it happens to be a nice place according to thier website.

Itā€™s less than a 5 minute walk from philadelphia to the cheltenham spa mentioned.

The priority here is being close to transit, not specifically being in philly

Electrical_List_2125 OP t1_iywq4f2 wrote

Itā€™s actually kind of an ideal for me! I think being in a quieter environment than center city sounds good. Just needs to be reachable without a car. Though I appreciate that itā€™d be great to have a truly local option too
