Delete the app so you don’t know when your walking into a shoot out, great advise.

That app is garbage. When I had it and lived at 13th and Chestnut, I would see unconfirmed reports of shots fired right outside pretty frequently. Not once were shots fired lol

Let’s see i was able to avoid that stabbing on broad a few years ago because of It, also a murder on 9th and shunk or somewhere around there. So if I can avoid the traffic from shit happening I will. Things also aren’t reported all the time on the news or in a timely fashion l.

Like you avoided a crime scene? Or you think you would've been stabbed?

i'm not telling you to delete it if you enjoy using it, just sharing my opinion that it's not helpful 99% of the time. If something shows up on the app it's already happened (if it actually happened). If you are already present on the scene where an incident is unfolding it's not going to help you - excluding a few instances of like an active shooter or something, or an ongoing traffic issue.

Literally avoid a crime scene I don’t think I’m going to get stabbed and I don’t fear moving around the city. It’s not minority report, citizens isn’t going to help you not get shot. To each their own tbh, if you want to delete it go for it, but negative things happen don’t bother me. This is the nature of the world we live in.

Given the apps accuracy, you probably didn’t just miss anything.

Do you really think you'll see a post before it happens? Or before you hear it if you're that close? None of their info keeps anyone any safer

It keeps people informed about things happening and even traffic, It’s pretty counter productive to put your head in the sand because bad things happen.

PurpleWhiteOut t1_j4qzm0f wrote

It keeps people informed about things that already happened, and often inaccurately and if things that end up unfounded but you do you

Valid, but this is an opinion piece I happen to agree with.

Fair, I just stay away from opinion pieces.

Not using a junk app =/= ignoring the news. What planet are you from? Better yet, what "news" sources do you "read?"

Gabagoo44 t1_j4r063y wrote

Only semi reliable news is probably local at this point, everything is super biased and not worth looking at. I don’t want opinion pieces or someone’s politics in news.

So you've gone full defeatist. Instead of finding trustworthy news, you rely on social media? That's way worse than reading a fact checked, albeit opinionated, news story from a major outlet.

Social media is probably the worst place, everyone is dying of the vaccine on Twitter. Just garbage opinions on every tweet, take the Damar Hamlin story for example. Everything at this point is trash at least with shitty as citizens, once in a while it’s true.

Except, apparently, unconfirmed info spreading around police scanners by people who haven't had time to vet the information at all. Real galaxy-brain level thinking here.

Personally I avoid people with small dogs because no one respects their boundaries which makes them very hostile at times.
