- Be okay with being completely isolated from friends, family, and society while you prepare to live on a rock in the ocean.
- Bring about a tragic and unfortunate accident to the current lighthouse keeper and make sure you're next in line for the job.

Apparently these days, but back when it was first built people just... climbed it. No idea how the fuck they even got a boat close enough with waves like that though.
