I know that UPMC and AHN have a monopoly on 95% of the medical industry in Pittsburgh, but I'm trying to find a cardiologist who isn't associated with these two networks. I've found some that didn't appear to be associated at first (e.g. Premier Medical Associates) but it just turns out that they're AHN in disguise iiuc. Does anyone have some examples of independent cardiologists in the area?

weird flex to put your personal political convictions ahead of your heart health. i hope you find the care you need.

I'm trying to avoid dealing with the crappy scheduling, service, insurance, and billing experiences that both me and my SO have dealt with personally with both UPMC and AHN. Not political at all. In fact, it's exactly because I care about my heart health (and mental health) that I'm trying to avoid these two networks. But...thanks for the helpful..."advice"? 🙄

While I hate everything else about Butler, their cardiology dept is pretty fantastic. Seriously though everything else about Butler (especially the hospital itself) is bad.

That sounds like it would be impossible. Aren't all of the hospital and medical facilities in Pittsburgh associated with one or the other?

Huh. Color me surprised! Good luck in your quest, but from the other comments, it sounds like you are looking for somewhere outside the city limits. Impossible for me, since I can't drive.

Dr. Robert J. Ruffner has his own practice next to Upmc but he does use their facilities.

Shadyside cardiology they used to be AHN affiliated but are no longer. Can’t speak to the quality of care though, just pretty sure they’re independent now.

Idk if this is a good idea just to avoid some headaches before and after your care. Ive worked across both networks and the big hospitals get all the patients the hospitals you mentioned cant handle or messed up. If you are going to end up needing a procedure i recommend going to a larger hospital.
