Hiya folks! Me and my little brother are going to Providence tomorrow for the first time.

We'll only be there for two days, but we were hoping you all could help us find the best, most fun. and unique restaurants!

We rarely get to spend time together, so having a memorable experience would be awesome!

Thank you all so much. I hope you have a great week!

I'm glad this is the top comment, I never heard of this place til a couple three weeks ago. So so good

It was open less than a year before the pandemic hit 😣 ... they probably only survived that because it is really that good. I have a friend from Turkey who raves about it

I have a friend from Damascus who can never go back, this place brought him to tears.

So glad he found something to comfort him. His homesickness must be immense 😣

I just looked them up! Looks so good. Don’t know why haven’t heard of this place

They only opened at the end of last summer!

Went here for my birthday dinner this past summer and it was amazing. Incredibly memorable meal and I cant wait to go again

As good as the food is, I’m more impressed by how much money they’re spending heating their patio. It was in the 40’s the other night and I was totally comfortable sitting on the side patio.

Beware many places in Prov are closed on Mondays

PaleWay t1_jc3yd41 wrote

Pickerel and Thick Neck are open Mondays. Pickerel is ramen, small spot, small menu but bomb drinks, dessert and ramen. Thick Neck is a pop up experimental spot inside the Dean Hotel. It’s downtown so super walkable. Small-ish plates, fresh, good apps, desserts and drinks.

Den den on benefit st is really good Korean and Japanese. The bibimbap is awesome. It’s really great on a cold day. Enjoy your brotherly visit!

Edit: street name

Den Den Café Asiana is on Benefit St, not Hope :) But I am seconding this recommendation!

RIPDan2k18 t1_jc04uq2 wrote

Den Den Korean Fried Chicken is on Angell St right by Hope

15

n0m_chompsky t1_jc06kun wrote

Oh whoops, you're right! I guess I assumed they meant the café bc they mentioned bibimbap which made me think of the café over the fried chicken spot. But you can't go wrong either way 🙂

6

boulevardofdef t1_jc0j6ae wrote

I slightly prefer the fried-chicken spot (which despite the name has a lot more than fried chicken), but they're both great

jonelson80 t1_jc1u3hr wrote

You're not wrong. DDKFC is two blocks from Hope St.

Labor wage theft.

15

Dopey-NipNips t1_jc1e1az wrote

Literally every restaurant you've ever eaten at is guilty of same

−7

HereForTheLulz t1_jc1ti1j wrote

Great argument, since everybody does it, let’s ignore the one where things got so bad that the labor secretary sued them on behalf of 128 employees, and they had to settle for $775k.

Let’s just ignore that, and recommend that shithole to people from outside the state as a shining example of “great restaurants you should visit while in Providence”. Because everybody does it, right?

12

Dopey-NipNips t1_jc465nu wrote

The other restaurants on this list are doing the same

It's not a shit hole the food is good and it's clean

No different from the other restaurants on this list

HereForTheLulz t1_jc49ni3 wrote

Hope you enjoy eating the tasty food bought by stealing wages from Providence’s hardest-working, lowest-income workers.

2

Dopey-NipNips t1_jc4adi8 wrote

I don't really eat out

The whole industry is unethical, as wage theft is the largest amount of theft in this country

You can't go anywhere where the Honduran cooks are making below minimum wage and the waitresses are getting fucked out of overtime

Na na na we gotta make this post every day, my guy. Every single day we need an updated list of must-try restaurants in PVD. If you wanna be a hero, you gotta drop a comment with restaurants that AREN'T in Providence, like Fall River, Warwick, Wakefield, etc. Dems da rules, kid

Monday will be tough, as others have said. Unfortunately, since the pandemic, a lot of places are closed on Tuesdays, too. Jahunger is open on Tuesday, it’s fantastic, especially if you like spicy food, Uyghur food with excellent service.

You can start at one end of Atwells Ave and eat every lunch and dinner at a different restaurant and not be done for a month. You literally have so many options in Providence you won’t be disappointed. I personally like Casserinos for a good Italian meal, Ogies for casual dining, and Olneyville NY system for late night drunk hot weenies. Haven Bros is a fun experience too, the Old Canteen or Venda is great as well. So many good places you’ll have a blast

Apsara is some good cheap Asian food. They have a very wide variety of choices. 2 locations. Both have been fine to me but I know some people say the public st. Location is where it’s at vs the hope st location. It says it’s Cambodian on google but it’s more pan-south East Asian I would say
