Keeping my options open and looking at Pawtucket too, in addition to Wayland square/elsewhere in PVD. Slater looks cool and is close to the train; online reviews are a mixed bag. Anyone live there or hear anything about it?

Thanks y’all!

Never been there but looked at some of the mill type apts when moving here. Soundproofing tends to be minimal. I would suggest top floor only. You’ll want to get a sense of the demographic. I looked at one in PVD and it was clear that there were like 4 med school students in each apt - basically a dorm.

Slater has a few buildings.

Building 1 is a typical restored mill, with sound problems.

Building 2 is a new construction, and damn near soundproof.

Building 3 is a legit house. Sound depends on unit.

Building 4 I don’t know about. Haven’t heard anything bad, besides from being across the street from a church bell that goes off every hour.

Which one did you look at in PVD, the Halstead by the station?

This was several years ago - US Rubber Lofts by Atwells. It was when it was first opening and lots of deals so no idea what kinda demographic now.

I also looked at the ones by Providence Place Mall and those were nice and seemed more solid, but it was like a 10 minute walk to where the parking or exit would be from the unit I was looking at. No joke - these buildings are huge! Ha

I lived there for 4 years, moving out in 2020. I really liked my apartment - I was on the 4th floor. Nice unit. Expensive but I was coming from Boston so the cost didn’t register initially. I would have stayed if I didn’t buy. No complaints about my time there.

I had friends who lived in slater. They loved it , and I thought it was a quality unit. Expensive though but I think you get what you pay for.

I've considered living at what is now called Halsted, in one of the metro units. Personally I feel they are asking way way to much for the size but it is very nice and if you value the amenities it might be worth it for you.

I lived there for 3.5 years and loved my time there. We were in a first floor unit and never had any issues with sound. Had a very positive experience with staff and especially the maintence team. Not sure what the units are currently going for, but it was very reasonable while we were there.

The surrounding area isn’t anything to write home about, but I never felt unsafe and you are very close to the east side of Providence and a short drive to downtown.

I lived there for a year, and enjoyed it. No complaints, I only moved because of a family situation

I lived there for 2 years, starting in 2011. I was directly behind the leasing office. I would hear loud people at the elevator every once in a while, but nothing substantial. The only negative I really had for the place was when someone "broke into" my car. It was partially my fault since I accidentally left the doors unlocked.

I also lived at American Wire for a few years. For the most part I enjoyed it there. However, the walls are paper thin and god help you if your neighbors smoke in their apartment. They might as well be smoking in your place.

I lived at the Halstead (was the promenade) and i miss it so much sometimes! the sound proofing wasn’t awful minus a decent amount of highway noises depending where your unit is. The amenities were fantastic, i never had any issues with management, and it was clean. Only complaint would be the rising prices of the apartments!
