Interesting how this article doesn’t mention that the cops were in plain clothes and didn’t identify themselves before they ambushed the kid.
Proof-Variation7005 t1_j37exje wrote
I only skimmed a couple of extemporaneous articles about it but I'm not seeing anything saying they weren't in a uniform and the guy who on bail for an illegal gun charge who pulls out another gun and shoots at non-cops maybe doesn't need anyone caping for them?
Bobisadrummer t1_j37n6pf wrote
You mean to tell me that local news media and journalist, who frequently publish police press releases and pass them off as articles with out any further research, don’t tell the whole story? No way! Then again, you’re the person who tried to tell me, someone who’s in ems, how to drive an ambulance… Seems you have a habit of trying to comment on things you know nothing about. You should fix that.
Proof-Variation7005 t1_j37r5mr wrote
I think you missed the point so I'll say it as simply as possible: The cops not being in uniform is not a mitigating factor in this man's attempted murder so it isn't really interesting how the article leaves out in irrelevant detail that changes absolutely nothing.
Radrunner17 t1_j381biv wrote
If you can’t see how plain clothes makes a difference in a response then you’re being intentionally obtuse. There are several court cases that have had altered judgements or rulings simply because the officer was in plain clothes. (Assuming this is true)
Proof-Variation7005 t1_j387pz1 wrote
For running away or not complying with some instruction? Sure, plain clothes makes a difference. It makes a huge difference.
For whipping out a gun in the laundromat and starting a shootout in broad daylight? No, it fucking does not matter.
Also, take a look at what two of the cops look like. You could see those dudes dressed up in literally any outfit imaginable and you'd be like "Those guys are cops, right?"
Bobisadrummer t1_j38d4ed wrote
That cop sure does find himself in this kind situation a lot…
Radrunner17 t1_j38823n wrote
It does matter, but I see here there is a lack of nuance. Also those guys probably look like any other person without a uniform. Not sure what you were implying by that.
Proof-Variation7005 t1_j389xcp wrote
I'm implying the original assertion / implication that they might be a rival gang targeting him is absurd.
Radrunner17 t1_j38a4hj wrote
If those men were in plain clothes you wouldn’t think they were in gang? How can you come to that conclusion without seeing them in plain clothes I’m confused.
Proof-Variation7005 t1_j38kqbb wrote
A) This is assuming they were plain clothes which is only coming from 1 person's "Dude, trust me"
B) One of those cops looks like he was ripped out of google image search for "cop haircut"
C) If you've had enough prior run-ins with law enforcement where they know you on sight, odds are you probably recognize a few cops yourself. As I just said in other comment, I think it's more likely that he knew exactly who they were, rather than he mistook them for rival gang members.

You act as if cops don’t lie all the time and that journalists don’t publish those lies as fact. That cop has a history of harassing people. You keep giving your opinion on things you have zero fucking clue about. The epitome of some cringe ass armchair expert redditor.

What are you specifically alleging is a lie here? Obviously, that fucking happens.
I think it's possible to acknowledge that and that maybe the dude with the long-ass rap sheet who tried to kill the cops on sight maybe isn't the good guy either. That's not middle ground the middle ground. It's just common sense.

Once again just making shit up.

CourtConnect is free and easy to use. I counted at least 8 different arrests / sets of charges from the start of 2018 up until (and not including) this incident in August of 2019.
That is a long-ass rap sheet. This isn't even fucking debatable.
Bobisadrummer t1_j39ikkl wrote
Once again, you do not understanding what you’re talking about and I’m completely out of patiences trying to explain this shit to you. Keep believing all the lies the cops say and the news publishes. They didn’t even get the sentencing right. He didn’t get 40 years.
Bobisadrummer t1_j38doma wrote
Because that dude likes to speak not from experience, but from his own judgmental point of views. He tried to tell me, someone who drives an ambulance for a living, that I should be fired if I drove the speed limit… as if I don’t know the rules and policies for my job.
Bobisadrummer t1_j37s8ie wrote
If you were being targeted by a gang and a couple of guys hop out of their car with guns, what would you do?

All I do every day of my life is not attempt to murder people. Thousands of days, never failed once. I can't really foresee any scenario where I'm breaking that streak.

You know what? I have. I've enjoyed a fuckton of privilege that this kid didn't. But there's a fucking ocean of difference between product of your environment and starting a shootout on a Friday afternoon.
Also, who the fuck is mistaking these guys for anything other than cops? If anyone saw these two guys in hospital scrubs and they'd look like a couple of cops who dressed up as Doctors for Halloween.
Bobisadrummer t1_j38d9f7 wrote
Why are you profiling?
Proof-Variation7005 t1_j38jbtp wrote
I dunno, why are you arguing in bad faith? The entire premise that these cops wearing body cameras were being mistaken for a gang threat is so far divorced for reality, I'm not even sure why I've wasted my time acknowledging it.
Even if that were plausible (and it isn't), what's the point? 40 years is too steep for the kid who turned Laundromax into the O.K. Corral?
I think a person could make a better case, based on his rap sheet, that he personally had prior interactions with these 2 cops than him mistaking them for random gang members.
Bobisadrummer t1_j38kzho wrote
It’s funny how you try to say something is divorced from reality, yet you’re the one who has zero experience in the kind of world he lives in. You’re damn right 40 years is too steep. They wanted to give him life. You know why prosecutors do that? They intentionally over charge to pressure people into pleading into lesser charges. This justice system is a sham. It’s always been like that specially for people of color. Maybe he should have become a cop instead. At least then he’d have gotten a paid vacation.

I feel like the obvious needs to be said. There aren't any white people in the Chad Brown or East Side gangs. There's no way Tyrone Robinson mistook the white cops for rival gang members.

The article links to another article which suggests the cop was in uniform.
"It's disheartening anytime anyone shoots at a uniform police officer in this country, and Providence has faced that," said Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare. "We're thankful today that he was well trained, well prepared, he had his vest on, and what he did probably saved his life."

Clownery in this thread lol. I grew up in this neighborhood, and when this event occurred others I met who know Tyrone’s family, as well as witnesses to the event have said the cops basically immediately exited their cars and actually fired their weapons first. Yep, the cops shot first. Forgetting what is “legal” or the supposed “criminal history” Tyrone has, take into consideration this: you’re in a gang for whatever reason, you have a firearm to defend yourself if need be, and two random guys begin shooting at you unannounced in broad daytime? Yeah, you would shoot back.
Meatball_Grinder OP t1_j39dcuo wrote
Do you think Tyrone Robinson should have been out on bail? This event wouldn't have happened if not for the lenient judge.

Providence police: Teen feuding with East Side gang member caught with shotgun
Excerpt from article:
A reputed Chad Brown gang member was arrested with a shotgun Saturday amid a feud with a rival gang member that police warn could have escalated into bloodshed.
Tyrone Robinson, 19, was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and possession of a firearm while in possession of marijuana, according to Cmdr. Thomas Verdi.
Police say he has been involved in a feud with an East Side gang member, “which has resulted in numerous calls of shots fired,” a report provided by Verdi said.
