My late mother used to bake gingerbread cookies for everyone at Christmas-time. Her parents are really craving/missing them this year and have tasked me to find replacements. I'm not really a baker and would rather purchase them.

They want them cut like gingerbread men and my mother's recipe (which we don't have) was very similar to the famous ones in Colonial Williamsburg. Is there anywhere in town with amazing gingerbread men? I'd rather skip the drive to Williamsburg.

It is not your job to fill in the holes of pain for your grandparents. You have your own grief. It is sweet of you to want to find the cookies. It would be nice if they could order them from different places and have a taste off. Good luck! And I am sorry for your loss. 💕

I appreciate your care, but it has been 3 years and I've moved on about as well as could be expected. I think in a lot of ways it can be harder on a parent than a child.

The hope is to collect several ideas and do exactly as you suggested, have a taste off to decide on where to place a larger order!

You may want to call Williams Bakery as well. I know that I got them there a few years ago. I moved to GA so the details are fuzzy but worth a call.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Try Ukrop’s Bakery. Not sure if you’re originally from the area, but Ukrop’s used to make really fantastic gingerbread men when the grocery stores were open. The bakery might have carried that over. Wegmans probably has gingerbread. Scoop (ice cream store) has had gingerbread ice cream in the past, if you want to mix it up.

This looks so close to what my mother did, I wonder if this is the exact recipe she used... it's one of the few recipes we don't have of "hers". Thank you! I might work up the courage to trying to make these someday.

Thank you so much for the kindness, but I made the drive today (was already in Mechanicsville from almost-Amelia, figured may as well since I was already halfway there). Thanks again, though. <3
