We walked in the heavy rain and cold (38-40 degrees) to this venue to see trippie redd perform, it was $85/ticket and the understaffed security checkpoint had the line moving so slowly that people were dropping out left and right. We had even just convinced my friend to buy a ticket an hour prior.

hypothermia is an understated and very real risk from this situation. My girlfriend happened to be underdressed and we stood in line for an hour (thinking we were late) until 11:20 when we couldn't take the wait. Her lips were blue, and she was soaked. I realized we were gonna have to uber home and we did because this was genuinely unsafe and disrespectful to the ticket purchasers. I've been to venues where it rains and they rush us in because it's respectful.

this line wrapped from the left corner of the john marshall on fifth st. and wrapped to franklin, then double backed on itself. to the back of the venue. We waited for an hour in the rain and cold and didn't even make it halfway.

I know someone on here witnessed or was in line with us. Can anyone explain/help the refund possibility?

Also someone explain why there were sold out shows for trippieredd in Massachusetts, D.C, and Richmond?

So, the majority of your post is 💯 unfortunate and it sounds like a legit bad show and a sucky promoter.

That said, we really should address this part as a Teachable Moment™ for you and others:

> We walked in the heavy rain and cold (38-40 degrees) to this venue […] hypothermia is an understated and very real risk from this situation. My girlfriend happened to be underdressed and we stood in line for an hour (thinking we were late) until 11:20 when we couldn’t take the wait. Her lips were blue, and she was soaked. My siblings in [deity or superfluous omnipotent object of your choice], that is completely on you two. Unless you’re under 15 and still living with parents/guardians and need a permission slip to stay out late at night, nobody else is going to dress you. It was cold and raining pretty much the entire day and this wasn’t a surprise little change in the weather.

It is fully your responsibility to check the weather/conditions before going out to make sure you have what you need to protect yourself from the elements.

Just because the venue and security people were moving the line along very slowly doesn’t mean they are responsible for your poor clothing decisions and lack of layers.

I’m glad this completely-preventable case of potential hypothermia didn’t result in an ER visit or worse and I hope it was a lesson learned on how to better prepare next time.

If anything, I guess be glad you bailed before making it in to see a fake show and be even angrier you had a really bad time to apparently see 3 lip-sync songs.

Jeez man… Feel like you’re being overly tough on them. We don’t know how underdressed she was or if they had umbrellas, but it’s 100% normal and expected for people to dress down when going to packed clubs that don’t have coat checks. Standing in a normal line for 15 min like any of us would expect at a show might have been fine, but it sounds like the club advertised an earlier show, or at least didn’t make it clear what time it was starting, then didn’t let people in til midnight. These are probably kids and honestly OPs post is pretty self aware, all things considered. They could have made better decisions, but this club fucked them over

Exactly! There’s no coat checks at these places so I make a choice to go without one knowing that I’ll be cold for a few minutes in line. Did the same thing Saturday night for a show. That’s not that happened here at all.

When the “doors open at 9:30” and we get there at 10:30 and still waiting in line at 11:30 to a venue that has scammed people before (check their instagram, they are deleting any comments about this shit) in the cold rain, it doesn’t fucking add any merit to your pretentious-ass argument.

also there’s nowhere to put a fucking coat and when you pay money for entry to a building you should be allowed to complain about not getting in a reasonable time or manner.

This subreddit is full of fucking assholes.

especially fusion, they’re the worst

Hi, moderator here who approved your comment, despite the personal dig at me for being "the worst."

I'm not victim blaming anyone. It's not OPs fault that the promoter and venue failed to admit people in a timely manner and get them out of the elements fast enough or even at a normal speed. It's pretty clear that myself and others agree that sucks.

What I did do, however, is let OP and others—who may be in this position in the future—know that they have their own personal responsibilities to how they dress in inclement weather. Anyone with a functional nervous system knows that yesterday was cold and rainy pretty much all day. Look out a window, stick a hand out of the door, or maybe look at a weather report. So, in that respect, being underdressed knowing that there will be a period of time one will be outdoors is probably not a "great decision."

If you—the proverbial you and not individual you—go to the beach for an all-day outdoor music festival and didn't pack sunscreen or bring an umbrella or tent and can't find any shade to stand under, yeah, you're gonna get a pretty bad sunburn and/or heat stroke. Both of those things are typically preventable with the right planning.

There are plenty of stories of people getting seriously ill, injured, or dying from being exposed to the elements and not having appropriate clothing.

>also there’s nowhere to put a fucking coat

So just hold it or tie it around your waist or wear it or ask someone else if they can hold it for you. I mean, goddamn. It's not a difficult thing.

Lastly, and I'm saying this as a moderator: take it down a notch.

You'll be a great dad someday if you're not already - but in this case, they didn't pay for an outdoor experience. They paid for an indoor experience with the implied promise of a reasonable line, which they dressed for. Nobody brings coats and umbrellas to clubs like that when its just sprinkling, because it sucks to have to deal with them inside when it's 90deg and packed with people dancing, and they're likely to get ruined/lost/stolen anyway. OP did exactly what club-going adults have been doing for decades. It's an international standard.

Devil's advocate here, your girlfriend being underdressed is not the venues problem. They don't owe you anything. They let people in at midnight. Yall weren't dressed properly and couldn't take the wait in the cold.

Is it really devil’s advocate if you just straight up tell someone they’re wrong?

Diet_Coke t1_j5kfizt wrote

Devil's advocate's devil's advocate here, but if they were properly dressed for a 30 minute line and not for a 5 hour line, that really is the venue's problem. It's not like these places have lockers and changing rooms for people to change from 5 layers of bundled up to fun in the club outfits. I just googled this show and it says the first act starts at 10 pm, so you'd expect doors to open between 8 PM and 9 PM, not 12 AM.

I heard the show in Richmond was going to be a live feed of the one in Massachusetts, but IDK if that's true.

Edit:. Not true. He showed up in person eventually. Some of the commenters on that Insta link waited 5 hours in the cold rain!

If they sold tickets to a show where the main advertised performer wasn't going to be present, I'd say there's room for a class-action case against the club assuming people want to go through the effort.

Damn, $85 for 3 lip synced songs. At least now you know the promoter is full of shit and that knowledge will save you more money in the long run.

Someone commented they didn't even let people in until midnight.

lunar_unit t1_j5k07yp wrote

And Trippie didn't go on until after 2am (after playing a show all the way up in Mass.).

What a shit venue, and really, what a shit performer, for planning 2-3 east coast shows on the same day. Straight money grab. I hope his fans are pissed.

Promoters/venues in this particular sector of the music industry are generally trash. I’m not talking about genre of music, I’m talking about these low level dickheads whose product is 90% hyped up social media posts convincing people to give them their money for the party of the year when they happen to book a well known artist on a clear cash grab. Logistics and crowd experience were last on anyone involved’s list of shit to care about, including Trippie. He had no business doing that bullshit show, but at the end of the day, he got paid and the fans got screwed, and neither he nor the promoters give a shit. That’s just how it works with these scumbags.
