Similar rocks on earth to what Perseverance is studying were run through similar test equipment to what Perseverance is using and the similar equipment couldn’t see life. (Perseverance will probably need Mars samples with more life to see life.)

Searching for evidence of life on Mars is a major impetus for exploration, however, current Mars mission instruments lack the essential sensitivity to identify life traces in Chilean desert samples that strongly resemble the martian area currently under study by NASA’s Perseverance rover.
