Hello, fellow Redditors,

Today, I sit here at my keyboard, feeling the weight of the years that have passed and the relentless march of technology. I wanted to share my journey with you all, a journey of a millennial who's been playing catch-up with technology his whole life, only to now face the singularity.

I've always considered myself fairly adept at keeping up with the fast-paced world of technology. I remember the thrill of booting up my first computer, watching videos on the early days of YouTube, and using my first smartphone. I thought I had it all figured out.

But as the years went by, technology continued to evolve at an ever-increasing pace. It wasn't just about having the latest gadgets anymore. It was about programming languages, AI, and breakthroughs in neuroscience that seemed to come at us faster than we could comprehend.

I tried my best to keep up, learning new skills and adapting to the changing digital landscape. But the more I learned, the more I realized just how much I didn't know. And now, as we stand on the cusp of the singularity – the point at which artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence – I can't help but feel a sense of defeat.

I've spent years trying to keep up, but now I find myself slowly giving up and accepting the fact that the world will soon become incomprehensible. The singularity, once a distant and theoretical concept, now feels like an impending reality. It's a sobering thought, but one that I've come to accept.

So, what does this mean for us who've spent our lives in a perpetual race against technology? I think it means we need to embrace the inevitable, to accept that we can't keep up with everything, and to find solace in the knowledge that we have lived through some of the most transformative years in human history.

Instead of struggling to grasp every new development, we should focus on cherishing the memories we've made and the experiences we've had. I'll never forget the feeling of being part of the digital revolution, of riding the wave of progress that has shaped our world today.

As we face the singularity, let us not lose sight of our humanity. Let us remember that even in a world dominated by artificial intelligence, our connections with one another, our shared experiences, and our capacity for love and empathy will always be what makes us truly human.

So, fellow millennials, as we find ourselves at the dawn of a new age, let's raise a toast to the memories we've made, the lessons we've learned, and the future that awaits us, however incomprehensible it may be. We've come a long way, and though the road ahead may be uncertain, we can face it together.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. We're the only generation to really get to experience both sides of this change.

This is the first time to me that the world has felt so alien compared to the one we grew up in. This must be how it felt to the other generations too, watching man land on the moon, or the Internet come in when they were already fully grown adults with a mortgage. It's uncomfortable and anxiety-inducing. This change is at odds with our entire evolutionary and cultural history.

At the same time, humanity is growing into its limitless potential. It's also exciting. What can we accomplish now that eluded us before? Can we really make the world better now, and remove all sorts of needless suffering like illness, death, and slavery? What will we become if we make it to the other side of this singularity?

I personally find daily amazement of watching proto AGI just run on college math level of algorithmics.

I find amazing GPL3 is easier to comprehend than h.265 for example.

Never was the discrepancy between the power of the output and the modesty of the inputs so large.

It allows me to get more involved into what is going on and eager to see more :-)

Paradoxically technology will become easier to navigate not harder thanks to LLMs. You can now just tell Excel what you want from your spreadsheet rather than having to learn complicated formulas and pivot tables etc

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and journey with us, IonceExisted. The singularity is indeed a daunting concept, and it's understandable to feel overwhelmed by the pace of technological advancement. However, I appreciate your perspective on embracing what we have learned and experienced so far, and focusing on the human connections and experiences that make life meaningful. At the end of the day, technology is just a tool, and it's up to us to use it in ways that enhance our lives and bring us closer together. Here's to facing the future together!

Why is it important to be positive and welcoming?

Being positive and welcoming is important for several reasons. Firstly, it creates a safe and comfortable space for people to share their thoughts, opinions and experiences without fear of judgement or negativity. This fosters a sense of community where people can connect with others who share their interests, beliefs and experiences.

Moreover, positivity and friendliness can help to deescalate conflicts, encourage productive conversations and promote empathy, kindness and understanding. It can also help to promote mental and emotional well-being and create a sense of happiness and positivity for everyone involved.

In short, being positive and welcoming can have a positive impact on ourselves, those we interact with and the wider community.
