Potentially all office, Admin, clerical type jobs are all under threat. Indeed any job at all that isn’t physical or creative could be under threat.

I disagree, but respectfully. 5-10 years is not too long of a timeline, and knowledge work is a lot more than just crunching numbers, shuffling papers, etc. Anybody who works in a knowledge-based field (or is familiar with a knowledge-based field) knows this.

AI that's capable of fully replacing what a significant amount of knowledge workers do is still pretty far out, IMO, given how much human interaction, task variety/diversity, abstract thinking, precision, etc. is involved in much of knowledge work (not to mention legal hurdles, adoption, etc).

Knowledge work will undoubtedly change over the next 5-10 years and even more so after that, but I'm pretty confident we're a ways away from it being totally disrupted by AI.

By the time you'll be replaced, we'll have UBI, so you shouldn't worry too much

What's an UBI?

AdorableBackground83 t1_j1v41hr wrote

Universal Basic Income.

When everyone regardless of their socioeconomic status gets a no strings attached stipend from the government.

it so funny that people actually think there would be UBI. But some people believe in santa claus, god & eastern bunny, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

alternative? Same as we do today with people with addiction, mental health problems etc. leave them to live in streets.

This is how people have discussions. :) you must be living in misery.

Edit: thanks for googling it for me. You’re so helpful.

So show me your ‘readings’ that UBI has worked, where has it been active for 5 years straight? Answer, no where.

Again, miserable human being incapable of being asked a simple question without generating conflict and an overall unpleasant experience. Why are you so unlovable?

LOL, snowflake that can’t take being called out for being wrong. Why are you so thin skinned?

lilcaligula2000 t1_j1vxvz6 wrote

Deflect all you want. I don’t mind. All you had to do was link me to one article that you enjoyed instead of generating an unpleasant experience for no reason. I could do the same thing, google “UBI successes” and link you to it but that’s not helpful as I’m not invested in the google search, but rather, specific readings that have informed my worldview. At this point I’m done engaging with you. It’s clear you have bigger emotional and mental handicaps that prevent you from having mature, reasonable conversations grounded in trying to understand your community member’s perspectives. I hope the new year brings you a sense of meaning and, perhaps, some manners.

Guns_and_glory99 t1_j1vy7x2 wrote

LOL I linked you a dozen articles describing the failures. If you are too lazy to read them, that’s on you. Keep spouting your erroneous view that ‘UBI is a success’ and you will keep running into people like me pointing out you are wrong. Stop being wrong, then you won’t get your feelings hurt anymore.

If 90% of your job becomes automated via ai, you'll be able to handle 10x the number of jobs. That implies that there will be 1/10 the number of available positions for accountants. That's a big assumption. Perhaps there will be an accompanying boom in the economy that increases the need for accountants 10 fold. That seems optimistic, however. There are other limiting factors to economic growth that AI can't foreseeably overcome until ASI.

In the labor market, you'll be competing for fewer positions against a lot of other accountants. Salaries will decrease. Eventually, there will be fewer people becoming accountants. That isn't particularly helpful for you though. Those changes in the supply of accountants will take decades. The changes in the demand for accountants will not take nearly that long.

Look for competitive advantages that will ensure you can still get a job. Knowing how to effectively use AI for your job seems like an obvious one. Specializing in a very niche area of accounting may provide another as that specific knowledge base will need to be coupled with the more generalized abilities of AGI.

Nah. There will be sex robot agencies with models created for every fantasy and body type preference. Not even people who sell feet pics are safe when you can just generate it from a prompt.
