I think it's just a feature of Internet social media (and maybe really any large-scale community platforms), that there will be a lack of nuance, caution, critical thinking, statistics & probability, in discussion. I'm sure there are some better Subreddits for this.

I think you are right. With this particular sub it also seems to be that some people really ‘need’ it to be true - I saw in some threads that people say the singularity gives them hope with their particular mental health problem etc. I’m glad it does, but it doesn’t make it more true because of that

Not that you are wrong on that; realize that you will find all sorts of people in any large group of individuals, it doesn't say much about anything.
