An official API would be really nice

No way thats happening anytime soon. Not as long as they need to limit everybody’s use

I’d be fine running the model on my own hardware, but that probably won’t happen

I believe davinci003 is pretty close to ChatGPT, and that's a full API. It is paid but is relatively cheap.

oh great... first they will implement caps.. then they will exclude people... then they will make us pay money...

Why is that a bad thing lol.. they spend time and effort to make something amazing, seems fair if you want to use it you'd compensate them for that

Imagine paying for individual google searches. But then another company comes out with a free search engine. It's a good way to kill your product. They would be better off selling cosmetics for the interface like customization options. Charging per message is becoming more common for ai chatbots but it's basically negative reinforcement for using their product

OpenAI's CEO just tweeted yesterday that he wants to build a world with AI where working is optional for everyone. So I wouldn't accuse OpenAI of being too capitalist.

OpenAI doesn't currently have an infinite supply of resources, so they will need to charge users for their products.

Expect them to make you pay money imminently. OpenAI has long since moved away from any idealistic free-for-all AI programs.

It shouldn't be too bad price-wise, like fraction of pennies per request if it's like their other GPT-3 tools. still a barrier to entry, of course

how do you join this discord group?

Mr_Hu-Man t1_j0fulc9 wrote

I assume it’s just OpenAI’s discord. You can find that on Google

What's the actual number of messages within the message cap/daily limit?

Great! I stopped using ChatGPT because you couldn't view past conversations. Seems I will return now

Daily message cap? Lame

... if you are refusing to provide feedback to OpenAI during your use. They are simply asking that if you are using their beta for free that you chip in and help, it's the entire point of a beta

Do you have to type something in the box for feedback to be helpful, or is just giving the thumbs up or thumbs down good enough? I use it for editing writing, so I don't really know what to put when it asks what an ideal response from the AI would have been because if I knew that, I wouldn't need it for editing assistance.

You can always just use the playground, text-davinci-003 performs very similarly as ChatGPT's model. The API pricing is very reasonable IMO.

Do we really need minor updates to chatbots posted to this sub?

ChatGPT feels like much more than just a chatbot, while technically one, it has massive utility and even more potential

Superschlenz t1_j0es4dr wrote

Why does ChatGPT need explicit feedback?

Why don't they just perform sentiment analysis on the user prompts as the reward? For safety they would also have to classify the users into good/evil and invert the rewards from the latter.
