If you can soon generate high quality content for yourself what does that imply for our society and economy???? What will happen to all the humans who work to produce these things when AI can do it all and all you need to make your own is a computer/internet connection
I feel like no one outside these bubbles are thinking or talking about this. It’s going to hit the mainstream like a ton of bricks. I predict in the next 1-5 years this will all start to happen. And I honestly have no idea what it will be like

Nobody knows for sure, transformers have blown their programmers away at how they can generalize and work outside of their designed field. We are so early and they are so simple structures, imagine what will come soon.
All we know is that something is in the air…

I think we've gone from knowing a tsunami is coming but not yet seeing it, to now seeing it crest over the horizon while trying to yell at everyone else to run away while they're not paying attention.

The ultimate age of consumerism. Machines will put in the work and everyone will receive UBI. If UBI is not installed properly there will be riots, looting, assassinations of AI developers etc... If everything goes well we will become unrecognizable to each other since everyone will live in their own bubbles with their own AI generated video games, shows, porn, news feed, AI friends and girlfriends etc...
There will be no reason to interact with people anymore. Majority of people will just spend time in VR and in their own house. Food will get made by AI and delivered to you by an autonomous drone. No reason to go out for a doctor visit since your personal assistant will know your body better than you and will be able to predict years in advance what will happen to it. You get my point.
And soon after that comes human augmentation with AI. The future looks interesting to say the least, but what we currently regard as "human" will no longer be there in the next 10 years.
I've recently been watching The last of us, and I personally want to go the other way lol (return to monkey). I know its a TV show, but it does seem like when there is no technology the relationships people have seem a lot deeper, more meaningful and life in general feels more fulfilling. Hey, maybe when AI gets far enough I'll request a personalized first person simulation of different time periods to see what it is like to grow up without technology. Sorry for the rant.

there will be tons of reason to interact with people what are you talking about lol. If you literally live only for tv and games, maybe. But even then you still will want to talk about those things and share them with people as your longwinded post gives away.

Maybe your generation, but the reality is that people born after 2000's are extremely lonely and already somewhat out of touch with reality due to extreme internet addiction. Even now you could argue that people aren't interacting with each other as much as they did 10 years ago since everyone is so atomized and living in their own online bubbles. I have no reason to believe that the current trend is going to reverse anytime soon.
Wasn't there a study suggesting that the average teenager/young adult spends 6-8 hours per day on their phone (and that's only phone without counting in the computer and other gadgets)? I think there was another study that also suggested that every third interviewed person in the US doesn't have a real friend. Humanlike AI will be able to fix all of that, further reducing reasons to go outside and meet friends/partners.

I want to agree with u/Iffykindofguy but I think the generational distinction is important. Like, sure, people aren't going to stop going out for drinks with their friends just because there is an AI option all of a sudden. But for future generations who haven't established those social/community bonds? It doesn't seem so far-fetched. Still, that sort of cultural shift won't happen nearly as fast as people are predicting.

Social activity starts with your parents so unless those babies grow up in isolation, which is possible, they will always seek interaction. Not to mention digital interaction IS interaction. Some of my longest friends are people Ive ve met online.

This could be the least scientific most absurd post Ive seen this morning, great job. Youre just spewing a bunch of nonsense generalizations about young people you saw on fox news.

But if I could have an AI that can entertain me better than anyone then why would I want to interact with anyone else?
Iffykindofguy t1_j6onh6r wrote
Because you'd get lonely, physiologically. Touch starved, baby! and a bunch of other reasons.

Maybe. If this exists I would quit soical media.

There are thousands of humans activities out there, why do you think that the future will only be diluted to video games and porn? If the future is truly automated then the economic liberation of every human will encourage us to explore the experiences that are prevented from us because of economic limitations.
Personally, Id would rather travel to Europe, Africa and Asia, eating plethora of cousins, Riding elephants, boats, jet planes and horses and screwing with locals. I think that's better than being stuck in my room, waiting for GTA-6 to come out and watching dull-repetitive porn videos.

But being a world dictator is not an economic problem. Living in a simulation is the best why to achieve this.

Money will turn into luxury credits in about 20 years. People will contribute based on need/aspiration/and reward.
We'll all be fine for the most part but will need to do some community service at least if you want to afford a playstation 10 or whatever.
Food, education, and healthcare will all be free, aside from ivy league schools or special free market food stuffs. The free market may resemble more of a barter system or could just exchange luxury tokens.
CertainMiddle2382 t1_j6o8gwd wrote
It is another discussion, but in the West money is already a luxury credit.
In western europe, whatever you do, you will always have a roof under your head, heating between survival and comfort level, potable water, habeas corpus, no slavery/mandatory military service, something to eat, the right not to be beaten by your neighbors too often, healtcare at least of 90s technological level, hot shower from time to time, wifi to access all humanity knowledge and all audio/visual entertainment until the 2010s, for free.
Still people are depressed they are poor, when the poorest Europeans have way more than emperors of the past.

Yeah, well I don't think that we have the system or maybe even not the ability to actually include everyone without the use of a.i. to help collaborate. A.I. will help coordinate and streamline things, as well as help people find enrichment in life.

Markets are always in flux. They're humans interacting dynamically. What will be the outcomes from the decisions of millions upon millions of people? Who knows?
>What will happen to all the humans who work to produce these things when AI can do it all and all you need to make your own is a computer/internet connection
Massive decentralization, institutions people think are required will fade away, many big businesses won't be economically viable.

UBI will act as the capitalism off ramp. The cushion needed to take the world from the current paradigm to the next without wide spread destabilization.
What's the next paradigm? That will completely depend on the speed that certain technologies proceed at, breakthroughs in the next few years will shape society going forward.
