Understand that there are a lot of people here who don't root for the USA. Understand that there are a lot of people here who aren't happy with the host country. But as a lifelong fan of the sport, I'm thrilled my national team finds itself with a path to the Round of 16.

Why wouldn’t people root for the US? Especially against Iran?

US are a good side but the Netherlands will be a big challenge in the next round.

If the USA beats Iran the Ayatollah will find some reason to say it’s why riots are happening in Tehran.

Was this not called offsides? Looks like the offensive guy was well past the defender by the time the ball got there.

Please correct my understanding of offsides if this seems off.

*Edit: My understanding of offsides is wrong, thanks all!

Haven’t seen the goal but offside is at the time of the passer contact, not when the pass reaches the receiving player.

Yea as the other commenter said, you look at the exact time the pass is made, not the time when he receives the pass.

Here's that exact time. As you can see, he's (the US player farthest top) a few feet behind the last Iranian defender.
