It looks like Brightspeed is finally available in my neck of the woods, and I'd like to make sure that I'll still be able to turn my lights on and off after I switch from Mediacom.

Yes they do, both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz.

2.4ghz is still used routinely, you won't see ISP routers deprecating it for a very long time.

Yeah, the router they give you should be great for your use case as it allows for you to setup separate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 ghz.

Many modern routers don't let you separate them, and it causes a lot of headache for certain smart home products. I'm assuming that's what you've ran into.

Their router isn’t great. If you are having issues it might be because of that. Especially if you have many smarthome lights. But yes, it has both bands.
