Ok so second Christmas here, is it normal for real trees to be cut and all sold before December? We like to get real trees but it seems like by thanksgiving or soon after the trees are all gone or extremely picked over and buying them before December we’ve had issues with the trees being so dried out to the point of being a fire hazard. Like the past week our tree was so dry and in terrible shape had to put it outside last night. Just wondering is this normal? Like I hate artificial but seriously considering getting one on sale now for next year if that’s just the norm here. TIA.

I don't know what's normal because I have a fake one, but I have heard there's been a Christmas tree shortage the last few years.

Yes I had heard that has well last year there were for sure pest issues that caused issues this year seemed worse for tree availability and cost though not sure why.

I've never had a problem with our tree drying out, and we buy it on Thanksgiving. They usually trim the bottom so the water is better absorbed into the trunk. We use the solution that you can buy to add into the water to give the tree extra longevity.

Thanks can I ask what species you buy? We did a fresh cut tree from a local farm this year thinking it might be better (it was a pitch loblolly pine) last year though we got a frasier fir that was precut it fared better but still not great. We always do the fresh cut before bringing it inside.

Trees were unusually short stocked this year. True Value, where I usually get one, weren't even selling any because their costs went up so much.

Thank you. I bought an artificial for next year… if the situation improves we will just have two trees I guess
