Reply to Sodas by [deleted]

Not in Springfield, but Dick's 5 & 10 in Branson has a bunch of sodas I've never seen anywhere else. At least they did last time I was there, which was pre-pandemic.

There's no use tiptoeing around it, they've really stepped in it this time. That pastor sure put his foot in his mouth. From now on they're going to have to toe the line, and put their best foot forward.

This is way too polite. It should read something like:

Advocating for Mexican Villa

I understand that it's not authentic Mexican, and I get that it's not for everyone, but I grew up with Mexican Villa, and I like it.

Disagreeing with Mexican Villa

WTF is wrong with you?! You are human garbage and deserve to die horribly!!!! I hope your entire family dies!!!!! You vote for Trump and drive a big truck. Guns! Confederate flag! Small penis!!!!!

I, on the other hand, only eat at ethically-sourced, farm-to-table, vegan-friendly, locally-owned eateries. This is because I am a very virtuous person with sophisticated taste. You don't know what real Mexican food is supposed to taste like because you're not from SoCal like me, you hillbilly swine!!!! I'm an authority on Mexican cuisine, I spent an entire week in Cozumel, after all!!!!

Advocating for Mexican Villa

You don't have to like it, and I understand it's not authentic Mexican, it's its own thing.

Disagreeing with Mexican Villa

STOP LIKING THINGS I DON'T LIKE!!!! BURN IN HELL, TRUMPTARD!!!!!

I would point to things like sitting through three cycles of the light at Battlefield and Kansas, or trying to head south on Campbell at 5:30pm, or navigating that absolute clusterfuck around Republic Rd, Kansas, and James River. Or trying to get anywhere on Glenstone any time of day.

Good: there are tons of options if you like dining out. Cost of living is low overall. Lots of natural areas if you like spending time outdoors. The people are in general friendlier and more open than a lot of places. Good healthcare for a town its size. It's easy to navigate because the streets are set up in a grid. If you like theme parks Silver Dollar City is a short drive, and it's pretty good.

Bad: low wages, lack of opportunity, especially in the tech sector. High crime, especially for a city its size. Huge homeless population the city refuses to help. Lack of mental healthcare, it's almost non-existent unless you can pay for private. Traffic is balls and getting worse. Housing is more expensive than it has any right to be. MSU is a regional university no matter how many times they change their name, and doesn't bring the kind of advantages a larger university like MU does.

Ugly: more racism and bigotry than central MO. The north side is in decay. Panhandlers on every corner. Local government is a good ol' boys network that are in bed with developers.

This seems implausible for a number of reasons. For one, it's pretty unprecedented, I don't think there's any modern examples of law enforcement clearing a homeless encampment by burning in recent history in the United States.

Then, there's the safety issues. Burning a camp like that would cause a lot of toxic fumes and potential groundwater contamination. And then there's the risk of the fire spreading, especially this time of year. It's unlikely Greene County would do this without a fire department overseeing it.

Gasoline as an accelerant? Again, huge safety issue, and there are much better ones. You could suppose they used something else and the "witness" was mistaken, but gas is easily identified by it's odor.

GCSO knows there would be a huge backlash, scandal, and lawsuits if this got out, so why do it? Why not just use more conventional methods and avoid all that? I'm not saying they always use good judgement, but this would be something you'd expect to hear about from Maricopa county.

I'm not saying it's impossible this happened, but it's highly improbable and I'm very, very skeptical. One burned campsite as shown in the video is proof that one campsite burned for unknown reasons. It would require a lot more proof to make the claim that GCSO is burning homeless encampments believable.

What I find a lot more credible is that due to the recent changes in the law, rumors are going around in the homeless community, and this pastor was taken in by them.

Right? I get that it's a meme that kids are a hassle and all that, but I see so many parents who treat their kids like this huge burden and act like martyrs about it.

When I'm out I see parents all the time yelling at or just ignoring their kids. Those kids are going to grow up and do the same thing back to those parents. And I'll bet the parents will still act like martyrs about it.

I'll take all the time I can get with my kid, they're only kids for a little while.

If you want to try what is unique to Springfield go to Mexican Villa South and get the Sancho Enchilada Style, and then Hong Kong Inn or Cashew Chef and get Cashew Chicken, all white meat. Leong's invented the dish, so it's good there as well, but a bit pricier.

I am not going to guarantee that you will like either of these dishes, and there are many other better options foodwise in town. But, those two are Springfield originals.
