That sounds fucking awesome.

It's a wild ride. And it's so fucking meta and satirical.

Sounds like they made the story punchier for TV but excited to see how they build out the weird meta story telling with more action.

Taika's currently in New Zealand working on both "Time Bandits" for Apple+ and S2 of "Our Flag Means Death" for HBO Max.
Dude's busy af.

Going by Thor 4 it's clear he's neglecting some projects in favour of others.

While also likely still writing his Star Wars film as well.

Sounds easier than last year, when he was in California both acting and directing for s1 of Our Flag Means Death while overseeing post-production of a Marvel movie. He's not doing all of Time Bandits, and he's only acting in OFMD. Honestly, sounds like a vacation in his home country for him in comparison to what his schedule normally seems like lol
Worthyness t1_is7cnpq wrote
Oh and then he has a Searchlight film coming out next year and also EP/writing for like 3 other shows. Dude is a workaholic.

Don't forget Reservation dogs and What we do in the shadows!
Thugging_inPublic t1_is91tuc wrote
Tbf his involvement with Reservation Dogs is only so much as getting FX to green light the series and co-writing the pilot. Aside from that he’s not involved with the show.
FancyJams t1_is924p6 wrote
He's an executive producer, although I have no idea what that actually means
Thugging_inPublic t1_isaqwfk wrote
An executive producer can mean any number of things but for the purposes of this show it's just him getting his friend Sterling Harjo a series green lit by FX because of his clout.

It’s a very weird book. I’m interested to see how they adapt it.

Same. I am thinking a lot of Charlie Kaufmann-esque shenanigans, especially with the meta nature of the book.
kid-chino t1_is6uadk wrote
I thought the same thing, which also makes me think that Taika might not be the best fit for this. I’d love to see someone like The Daniels EP this.
Firestorm238 t1_is6vbzd wrote
I love Taika Waititi - but the dude needs to slow down. He’s heading towards a massive meltdown with all of these big projects on the go at once.

I’m gonna be optimistic but I am awaiting to see a headline saying that he’s dropping out of Star Wars. He seems extremely busy. And with Kathleen Kennedy’s recent comments of needing a lot of dedication and time to be involved with that series I don’t know if he will have the energy to commit.
Mind you I think it’s great he is continuing to get work and look forward to seeing the pilot he directs.
ackinsocraycray t1_is7krib wrote
After seeing how Lord & Miller were replaced by Ron Howard for "Solo" and Patty Jenkins' "Rogue Squadron" movie being pulled from Disney's release schedule, I wouldn't be surprised if Taika's Star Wars project gets pulled or he drops out from it either.

How appropriate for a role that's suppose to be of a good looking asian man that is almost good enough to breakthrough the barriers of white and black hollywood to go to an ugly short minstrel who does ching chong accents on tv for the amusement of white men
There really is nothing more representative of asian america, they should cast ken jeong as willis' "brother", make it really meta, 2 of the most successful asian american male actors of all time, their success owed entirely to the fact that they're ugly and short and what the white men who run hollywood want as all asian men, playing an above average asian man, and good looking asian man, respectively
