Don’t know who no should feel sorry for? The multinational conglomerate bent on wiping out local businesses and economies so it can monopolize us into a continuous revenue stream or multinational conglomerate bent on monopolizing the internet in all forms so it can turn us into a continuous revenue stream? All I see is is losing.

You don’t think Amazon is selling your information (selling you) to other companies?

The Google Pixel C was a great tablet that they quickly abandoned and left with a bug where you can't even use a screen lock password since it'll accidentally lose the password and force you to wipe your device.

This is a battle of the giant monsters that is above my level. However, governments should force cross-functionality between differing operating systems. A society of ghettoized tech is stupid.

They prefer to call it their ecosystem lol. It's why Microsoft gives away their products for basically nothing at schools. Get them when they are young.

How about they either agree everything they both produce is universally compatible OR we just play a greatest hit and party like it's 1982.

Both of them. Apple too.

I like the part about them bitching that no one wants to put on the Amazon Silk browsers. I didn't know it even existed until this article but I'm already sure it's absolute dog shit. Probably has a built in ad-blocker that blocks every ad and replaces it with an amazon ad.

I don't care how good the TV panel is, there's no way I am wasting money on anything running that BS FireTV OS, sorry Amazon. Has nothing to do with Google or anyone else, rather what an unintuitive laggy POS your software is all by itself.

This is what happens when corporations are allowed to own the content, the studio, the transmission wire, the channel, and the set top box. If things continue like this, governments are going to break them up and force an open streaming protocol.

somehow tcl is able to make tv's with roku, android tv and fire tv

jogoso2014 t1_itgtrmn wrote

This isn’t rocket science.

Android TV and Roku are the dominant OS’s and the manufactures done want to sit on stale hardware.

That the FireTV OS has a foothold at all is a miracle.

And I know people like complaining about Amazon and Google but that plus Apple is what consumers chose.

If one goes on Amazon (lol) or EBay I’m sure they can find some crappy alternative to both of them on support of the [inferior] little guy.

As it is the greater concern is Google possibly prevent competitors as opposed to people choosing Amazon over its competitors.

Android TV is super clunky to use and literally sucks though, in comparison to FireTV OS. I don’t think the fact that FireTV OS has a foothold is a miracle at all.

A lot of folks would rather buy a 200 dollar “dumb” TV and turn it into a smart TV with a 30 dollar device like a FireTV Stick. It’s much more cost effective, and brings the same value. Furthermore, the user experience and interface and time you need to spend on it to get to what you’re looking for, is far more streamlined on FireTV OS.

I have Android TVOS on my new TV and immediately started using my old 4K fire stick from my previous TV because the UI and lagging of Android TV was unbearable.

I'd just like the option to have a dumb TV with no embedded OS so I can just bring my own set-top box and have a TV that doesn't crash and freeze up like a Windows PC.

The product you are looking for is Commerical Displays. (Be warned, they aren't cheaper than smart TVs)

maybe

"Samsung" has a deal with google, so Samsung is afraid of pissing google off by allowing a competing platform to put their "app" on the TV.

sorry amazon, no Prime Video app (bundled/included) with Samsung TVs.

>Amazon says over half a dozen hardware vendors have indicated that they cannot enter into a TV manufacturing relationship with the e-commerce group over fear of retaliation from Google, escalating tension with the search giant with whom it competes on several businesses.
