I’ll rewatch the first Simpsons clip show (April Fools Day) but never again the rest.

Fox actually wanted two clip shows per season to pad out the episode order, since it was their biggest show and more episodes = more ad money.

After the second clip show, the producers told 'em to forget it.

Yeah I heard that on the commentary tracks. Groening and a couple of the writers mentioned it. Clip shows are cheap and usually good for ratings. I'm glad it did not continue.
