Managers at my company have been fired for less. A director was fired for charging his time on his timecard to the wrong account on the first offense.

I can almost guarantee this was that they officially fired him for, but there was probably much more going on before.

Time cards directly effect billing and payroll and on DoD projects can be a big deal. So if someone’s making changes that could actually fuck up your contract. Transposing the wrong letter in a word where the keys touch is a LOT less severe and it’s easy to show there wasn’t intent.
FLTDI t1_j1vvxn7 wrote
I've been working dod contracts for my whole career, making corrections is standard and billing has a lag to the government. Now intentional miss charging is the only thing I've seen someone get walked out for immediately. So I do agree it can be serious, I just doubt it was "one simple mistake and fired" especially for a director

That's way worse.

This cracked me up even though the use of that word makes me hot under the collar. This was a true typo and accident. If you get called on it, just tell them the truth. It's very plausible.
Mass-Driver t1_j1vhwpk wrote
Yeah, that's the plan for now.

If you get fired for this, that's a company you shouldn't want to work for anyway.

You know you can recall a message, especially if you caught it quickly.
PinkbunnymanEU t1_j1vuk1b wrote
For outlook it depends on receivers policy as well, otherwise they get a request to recall; which makes them look closer at the email, best way is to add a 2min+ delay on all outbound emails (known as the career saver) so you can delete it when you accidently send.
FLTDI t1_j1vvb68 wrote
What I like to do is fully type the email and read it before even putting the recipient in the address bar. Reduces sending a message prematurely

That's actually brilliant, gonna have to start doing this myself!

I set my Outlook up like this after I accidentally caused a data breach. It's saved me multiple times.
Also I've made this specific typo by accident so many times, but thankfully always spotted it! I've switched to "best wishes" now. Much safer.

Doesn’t always work. And the recall message makes people look more carefully at the email than they otherwise would

I just read that there's a shortage of engineers to hire in a lot of places, so, if your company is smart, they'll keep you on.

Who hasn't done this lmao? There's a reason nobody signs emails anymore. I just kinda say what I need to say and hit send, fuck the formality.

I'm pretty sure if they even notice they will just correctly assume its a typo, I don't think its reasonable to assume it was intentional
