Many years ago I was getting a new phone. Verizon was pushing a predecessor to Apple Pay or Google Pay from American Express. The name of the app was Isis. I know they changed the name of the app when the other ISIS showed up but I think it just completely went away after that.

Yep, and Archer (the FX animated spy show) named their spy agency Isis and had to change it once the other Isis came along.

Hell, there’s been a post metal band named Isis for a long time…to say nothing of my Cousin Isis!
Evolving_Dore t1_ivutam4 wrote
I hope the name doesn't die totally. It's a great name an reference to Egyptian mythology.

Yeah, it was sad how it went from a point of pride for her (“I’m named after a goddess!”) to “please call me “Icy” now. I always thought it was a beautiful name.

I knew a girl named Isis growing up.
locks_are_paranoid t1_ivv5q8r wrote
They named it ISIS, but your post said they named it Archer. Also, a far funnier way to resolve it would've been Malory being bad that ISIS is giving them a bad reputation and suing them for trademark infringement.
Landlubber77 t1_ivvokq8 wrote
Oh whoops, changed it, thanks
Airp0w t1_ivvguhu wrote
I always thought they should have just kept the name and had the characters bitch about the new ISIS fucking up their shit.
A storyline with ISIS vs ISIS could have been hilarious.
rickybobbyeverything t1_ivui5ik wrote
To add one more to it. A aftermarket parts company was also called ISIS and had to change their name.
locks_are_paranoid t1_ivv5wqk wrote
ISIS isn't even the real name of the terrorist organization, the media just made that up.
Snuffin_McGuffin t1_ivvn9xl wrote
If I remember correctly the writers just rolled with UT and actually made icis terrorism jokes in the actual show

But seriously, why spread that disease when you could be in the madhouse, witnessing the persistence of time, keeping it all in the family, not a state of euphoria at all?

There used to be a town in Canada called Asbestos.

Asbestos mining town. Even though we've known asbestos mining could harm miners longterm since the Romans, it really is a wonder material that was appreciated until a few decades ago. I mean, it's a freaking rock/mineral that can be woven into fiber. Medieval kings would make asbestos cloth that could be cleaned by tossing it in a fire.

Apparently the (official) boundaries are in the 50s, so I’m gonna do the un redditor thing and say that you’ve corrected an LA native haha. I swear I remember seeing 90 somewhere.
Oh and the official name is actually the Toy District. Though you’ll never hear anyone call it that lmao. Skid row.

This is over towards Eastover on the outskirts of Fayetteville. Anthrax would probably be healthier than all of the GENX chemical that the DuPont plant has been dumping into the river and water table for at least the last 10 years.

Jokingly, it needs to be said.
There was a band which did change their name after 9/11, though. New Zealand rock band Shihad changed their name to Pacifier because they thought their old name sounded too much like "Jihad". They eventually did change it back after a few years, though.
