5cent deposit is too low. It may have been a motivator to save your cans in the 70’s but isn’t anymore. 15 or even 25 cents a can would prevent them from ending up in the trash or on the side of the road in 2022 which is the intent of the program it seems.

I guarantee that when I bring my trash bags full of cans/bottles to the redemption center the folks doing the sorting are not counting $0.15 for an empty bottle of gin or vodka in amongst the hundreds of other cans I'm returning at the same time. And you know what? I don't care at all.

Well if your shit was clean and in a box the way all these centers prefer they definitely would. But also they have to give it to tomra and for them to get paid it has to be properly sorted or theyll get short changed. What I'm suggesting is if you can buy it at a gas station or a grocery store, then it should be the same deposit as everything else you can buy at those places, irrespective of what kind of alcohol is in it.

no I am suggesting you rinse your stuff out and put it in a box. I am fine with no deposit as I don't believe it has affected littering in decades aside from those who are in position to use them as income.
