Like if I go out and overhear a conversation it’s about something interesting like art and not rudeness

There’s not a wide variety of food options here in Vermont and people seem to get pissed when you point it out. Housing is expensive and limited. Check out r/newtovermont

Manchester? They have high speed internet in most parts of the town. Good luck finding a rental though.

Quiet is relative… I find Springfield to be quiet but know locals who don’t.

one of the main draws of doing grad school remotely is being able to live somewhere affordable and not go into as much debt while getting your degree.

VT is in a housing crisis. Good luck finding anything affordable, especially something that fits all your stipulations like good ethnic food, quiet but not "podunk" as you put it, and people who only talk about art and are never rude

It's Vermont, everything besides Burlington is in the middle of nowhere.

Seriously? You're looking at a state where one in four persons is a senior citizen, and who, by and large, have been incredibly active in the small but important local arts, music, and theater communities we have here. I think you can find your quota of rudeness by taking a glance in the mirror.

Look for something 20 minutes, or so, outside of Brattleboro.

Looks like the only place that has the ethnic market I’m looking for is Burlington so I’ll look there!

There was a suspected murder in the Danby/ Mt Tabor area a year or so ago. Gun shot victim left face down in a snow bank. Otherwise a very quiet area.

Cape Cod is considered quiet by a lot of people and has had a drug problem for years. Hyannis has a decent amount of violent crime.

It’s all concerning but if you are coming from a large city your definition of quiet is probably different than if you live in Andover.

VT native who has also lived in Manhattan. I’ve had two family members and some friends move out of Springfield, right around the time there was a third lockdown at the local grade school because an active shooter had walked across grounds. (Drug house next door.) I know city violence and I know small town violence, and Springfield has escalated far beyond small-town skirmishes. One of my friends literally had her small daughters in active shooter lockdowns twice in one school year.

It sounds like you want all the amenities of a big city without actually living in one. This is not that place. Have you actually spent considerable time in Vermont? Maybe you should start there. Not trying to sound rude but you might do better looking elsewhere if you’re 100% remote.

I mean it’s the most liberal state isn’t it? I’d rather live in a liberal area
