Would love to see some long time traders chime in on this one. What did you buy and are you still holding ? Netflix at $1 ? Apple for $4 ? Tesla for $6 ? Or do we got some newbies in here who bought Penn for $140 or rivian for $150 or Coinbase for 400 or caravanA for $360 or tilray for $300 ? Let’s hear it ……let’s see if buy and hold is the way to go overtime or are we all regarded and jumped in to buy the top after covid bull market ????

I go through periods of heavy trading and periods of little to no trading and low amounts of risk on the table. Some years I churn through tens of millions in notional value traded and some years less than 100k. Was short most of the year and recently closed those out, leaving just a few core holdings long.

The market is pretty boring right now so I'm more than happy to spend my brain power elsewhere. Trading takes up so much mental capital, especially when working in markets that trade 24 hrs a day, or when you carry an uncomfortable amount of risk into geopolitical events.

Oh yeah for sure! What size candles are you usually looking at? I sure hope you're staring at a good monitor and sitting in a chair if you are staring at it all day long.

For me, aside from closing out a good trade, the most enjoyable part of the whole game is reading up on all the corporate dramas. Man I love a good fraud (FTX -- you darling!), the downfall of a company or nation that gorged itself on debt and crumbled, huge bets that failed. Keeps me coming back.

If you have some time for a great (and hilarious) read about FTX's fraud, you'd love this blog post. Written by a market maker who specialized in the Vietnamese Dong and it's insightful.

Better to get burned early and take the lesson to heart tbh. My first dumb purchase was Bitcoin back before the first huge runup. Tons of opportunities to get out with profit, but I held until I barely broke even. However, that lesson helped me take profits later on meme stock squeezes. It’ll come back around for you too.

Not a stock, but I downloaded robinhood sometime in the summer 2020 while I was an intern. Never put money into it, but instead played around with the money I got from the free stock until I had ≈50 dollars. (Stocks only go up so it was easy). Then I got bored of it and threw it into doge at ≈.002 and forgot about it. Whenever the first dogecoin rally was happening I remember that I had some and got on my account and immediately sold at .06 for ≈$1400. Money really helped with living expenses in college.

Naturally I thought I was a savant. A couple months later it would have been worth like 14000. Lost some sleep over that one. Don't have my robinhood account anymore so I can't get the exact numbers and dates. Pretty sad that I peaked so early in my trading career.

I started like 2 years ago I think. Had Robinhood for like 4 years but I was a dumb freshman in college and homeschooled. So the whole stranger danger thing was bashed into my head, so an app asking for SSN...no way. So I proceeded to let the app sit for 2 and probably missed out on a lot of opportunities haha.

But I started out buying a stock called kraken on TD, think I paid 50 bucks for the shares...it's all worth like 5 now It didn't go well lol.

But I also bought GTE at 80cents...and it's $1.15 now I think. But again, I was a broke college kid so only like 30 shares so not much gain, but it's green.

Don't ask me what I have done since then, red is in my nightmares these days 😂.
