Imagine having to get a security clearance to ladle out Orange Chicken

I've heard the janitors who work cleaning the SCIFs with a TS/SCI and higher clearance needed get paid huge salaries.

52

MishimaWasRight t1_j9h3b1u wrote

Honestly you’d have to otherwise they’d lateral

37

oxtailplanning t1_j9hhj0p wrote

Anyone with a TS/SCI is getting paid decently. Not a lot of janitors that can clear that hurdle.

22

No_Career_2227 t1_j9illqt wrote

Laugh in military getting paid peanuts with the same clearance 🤣

20

MishimaWasRight t1_j9jbgog wrote

That’s cause they got yo ass, changing jobs is a damn felony

14

oxtailplanning t1_j9jm3ak wrote

Fair, but once you leave, it wouldn't be a stretch for a contractor to pay you 6 figures with that level clearance (or at the very least a decent wage.)

MishimaWasRight t1_j9k2gsu wrote

Don’t I know it, I’m looking at joining up with reserves rnow

they are uncleared, and they are escorted through every SCIF.

This is correct

I’m not sure if that makes more sense or less. I seriously feel for the O-3 or gs-9 they put in charge of waste management chaperoning.

dcsnarkington t1_j9hmbri wrote

Lol.

It's unclassified in the general building. They've tightened things up, but the Pentagon wasn't much different than any military installation. Any person with a valid reason could get a visitors pass and wander the hallways.

Only certain rooms are classified spaces.

20

MishimaWasRight t1_j9jdavm wrote

Damn I was gonna see if I could work weekends to get me a clearance and then move over to the government

3

dcsnarkington t1_j9k1sq8 wrote

If you are being serious, without knowing your background there are a million ways to get a clearance.

You could just a get one of hundreds of thousands of jobs as a contractor for companies like Booz Allen, Accenture, or thousands of small businesses. They need people to do any number of jobs.

For example, while food service is unlikely to be cleared at a Secret or Top Secret level, facilities maint. can be.

You can also consider joining the army, navy, air force, reserves.

MishimaWasRight t1_j9k29ct wrote

I was mostly joking, I have a full time job working with at NGO in DC, but I am currently looking into the Army Reserves as a way to get Intel experience and clearance and generally boost my career. Plus national service is very important to me

That is not the Pentagon. If you are near the Pentagon though there is a Panda Express in the mall at Pentagon city.

62

hemlockone t1_j9i0lii wrote

If you click that on the map, it lists it as "2024 Concessions Pentagon, Washington, DC 20310". No idea why they Google maps puts it in the middle of an Army Corp water treatment building. (I don't know how many people work there, but I can't imagine it's enough for a big food court.)

28

karmagirl314 t1_j9hdohy wrote

For now. Restaurants in that food court are dropping like flies. As are the stores.

4

Matt_Tress t1_j9j0qk1 wrote

Really? I was there about a month ago, didn’t see a significant number of closed stores or restaurants in the food court.

3

karmagirl314 t1_j9jgn8q wrote

In the last two weeks they lost Nespresso, Altar’d State, and the large hat kiosk near the food court. They also lost Panera in January.

6

mr_grission t1_j9kfmx1 wrote

I love Pentagon City, I'd go there a lot in my GW days a decade ago or so. Unfortunately with online shopping cutting down on mall patronage in general I feel like Tysons might fatally undercut Pentagon City.

Is that really the closest "Chinese" restaurant? I have to imagine a 20 min walk gets you too better than a panda express.

Howard China is not that far from your starting location and it's much better IMO.

People and their fetish of downvoting. This was truly annoying considering they didn't even show any notice or anything. They even confirmed on google maps that they are open.

Truly infuriating

The Pentagon has a DC mailing address even though it's in VA. It's weird and it's obviously messing with Google Maps.

24

diaymujer t1_j9gi4jf wrote

Not sure if this is related, but all federal agencies have zip codes that do not align with their physical location. This is because the mail goes to an off-site screening facility to be irradiated for anthrax (and I assume other things) before it is delivered.

12

chuck-san t1_j9guea8 wrote

The zip codes were established decades before the anthrax screening facilities.

11

Ashamed_Band_1779 t1_j9gkcem wrote

The location in this map is actually in NW DC. Not sure why they call it “2024 concessions pentagon”

6

Animaled t1_j9glvg6 wrote

The Pentagon has their own food court and it's referring to that, the zip code is just causing weird stuff with Google Maps. The area listed in the map is currently the McMillan pit that's being built out.

I do wonder what's going to happen to these erroneous bussiness listings once McMillan is built out in like 6 years.

10

hemlockone t1_j9i2909 wrote

McMillan reservoir and these buildings aren't being redeveloped, it's the former McMillan sand filtration plant across 1st street that's been dug out.

Ashamed_Band_1779 t1_j9gklly wrote

Why? The location in your screenshot is nowhere near the pentagon

20

onlyforyouA1_ OP t1_j9gmoqd wrote

its beside the reservoir and I checked its called the pentagon

So the popeye's is definitely not there. I tried to go once. Are they underground? I am so confused.

16

onlyforyouA1_ OP t1_j9gmrme wrote

its also a federal property. for workers inside. you cant get it

8

Good47Life t1_j9k5lrc wrote

We have a couple of food courts and a restaurant so workers don’t have to leave the Pentagon to have breakfast or lunch. There is also a few 24/7 options for shift workers. The main food court is on the ground floor, and others sprinkled throughout. There are also, banks, credit unions, dry cleaners, jewelry store, CVS, clothing, shoe shine/repair, vendors, flower shop, optical/vision, barber sho, etc.

2

keeprisingtothetop t1_j9k61zq wrote

And then the area code shifts all of this to here on maps? I guess I will keep pinging google about it.. Thanks for the insight!

This Panda express is in the food court on corridor 7. They have 2 food courts there with other fast food places. There is also a sbarro and Dominic's on different floors that have their own seating areas, as well there being a separate outdoor food spot that's in the center of the pentagon.
