Why do all of the newly-constructed Silver Line stations have center platforms whereas this new infill station will have platforms on the sides of the tracks?

This new station couldnā€™t use a center platform unless you relocated the tracks to split around it (which is $$$)

The new Silver Line stations are built from scratch and there are advantages to a center platform over side platforms.

I think it has to do with how much use they expect the station to get at peak. It seems likely that an infill station in Alexandria would be used more than an outer silver line station and would get dual direction use during rush as it's both an origin and a destination station, so it gets a split platform so you don't have to worry about crowding from two directions.

Track work is supposed to complete in early November, bringing Yellow and Blue line service back south of DCA. The station construction meanwhile is not on schedule. So trains will pass through it without stopping

METRO Wholly Owned Criminal Enterprise funded by taxpayers at the direction of the permanent elected class for all the obvious reason that donā€™t include safe reliable clean inexpensive mass transportation!

Anybody alive besides me who remembers Metro saying that if you fund the building of the system it will maintain itself 100% with rider fareā€¦guaranteed? Now all it does is serve itself and provide funds for the permanent elected class who keep selling us the taxpayers stright up BS. Metro riders have spoken with their feet about this boondoggle! Should have gone with light rail and we still could!

An island platform station would have required a larger land area foot print, as the track would have needed to taper away from each other beyond both end of the station. The foot print for the double crossover alone would have been roughly 2/3 the length of the foot print of an island platform station.
